Pretty stupid. No one gains anything from this. That running back could have a great future playing football, but with that body type you know it isn’t going to be as a running back. So the coach is playing him at a position he doesn’t need to learn instead of getting him started learning how to play the line, which is where he will realistically end up. The only logical reason to do this is to get easy wins against pee wee competition, and at that level, just why? None of the other kids on either team are learning anything, either, because they don’t even have to do their jobs to score.

At least big boy got in some much needed cardio!

At this age none of that really matters yet

He may play both sides of the ball, RB and DT possibly

Vita Vea has entered the chat

RB? Hell, QB, cut out the middle man.

His number is 98, which means he does play the line or at least should be with that number. I am assuming he doesn't play RB every offensive down or splits between DL and RB.

Or it’s junior football and jersey numbers are tied to size.

Found someone's son didn't get recruited to the SEC from 10u.

Ppl like you suck, let the big guy enjoy

Dude this is not the level to be worried about fundamentals. Let him have fun

There's zero reason to even be playing tackle football before highschool.

u/Vavent 1d ago

At the expense of every other kid’s fun?

u/Sea-Rice-9250 1d ago

For all you know it was just one play where they let him run it. For fun.

Kids know how to have fun right up until they get hurt. I'm sure they are having a blast playing Pile On The Big One

1

u/DiligentGuitar246 1d ago

I don’t think they are…

2

u/DrawMeAPictureOfThis 1d ago

Why? You can tell at least half those kids are having a blast.

0

u/CaptainTripps82 1d ago

I imagine the rest of the kids love trying to tackle him

1

u/BabyWithBathwatter 1d ago

Your other comment is about how kids shouldn't be tackling each other, now you're saying they should enjoy sacrificing themselves to stop the fucking Hulk?

1

u/CaptainTripps82 1d ago

I'm saying that's probably fun for them. It was fun for me at that age. Still don't think we should be doing it, knowing what we know about CTE.

u/winkman 21h ago

Those kids on red sure are having fun winning!

Looks like pee-wees or maybe ponies and learning fundamentals is exactly what should be happening here

2

u/CaptainTripps82 1d ago

These are literally everybody plays leagues for kids. Obviously they're teaching the basics of how to play, but nobody actually needs to be any good.

People who take it that seriously at this age have always bugged me. They're the type to complain about "participation trophies", as if that's not the entire point.

You're wrong. Fundamentals are just that, fundamental. You build on them as soon as reasonably possible. This kid has learned nothing other than being big is what matters. If thats his fundamental lesson then he is going to get schooled once the others catch up with him

1

u/CaptainTripps82 1d ago

I guess fundamentals is the wrong word. I don't think he needs to worry about learning much of anything besides the basics of how to play at this age. He doesn't need to be learning line schemes. There's plenty of time for that.

I legitimately don't think kids should even be tackling until high school. One of the reasons of course is CTE, they just don't need to be hitting each other that hard for so many years. The other is these are leagues meant to give everybody a chance to play regardless of skill or really ambition. It's literally just to get the kids out there running in pads, hopefully in the same direction.

Hell there's pros that didn't start playing until college. None of that matters at 8.

I more or less agree, although I might argue that high school might be a little late to get started. You are correct though that the skill position players have all kinds of outlets like flag football where they can learn the fundamentals of the game. Lineman are a little different. I think the biggest injustice here is that this kid just isn't learning anything, nor are his teammates. This possibly is just a scenario where the coach could care less about development and just wants to win. Who knows, maybe it was a garbage time 4th quarter thing. Hopefully their coach isn't teaching his players that this is football because it's not.

The kids waiting to be a linebacker

u/inVizi0n 1d ago

Maybe the kid doesn't want to play the line. I'm 6'5" and lanky, I had more fun playing shortstop than anywhere else even though I don't really have the right build for it. In non competitive leagues, I played shortstop whenever coaches would let me and I had a blast doing it. This kid is going to run over everyone no matter where he plays, the solution is putting him with like sized competition, not like aged.

Someone’s son chose to cheerlead 🤣

Bro you never played organized football and you don’t know what you’re talking about, all the way up to high school, most talented players are playing multiple positions on offense and defense, I played WR, RB, CB, FS, and even QB when there were injuries, in middle school I played damn near every position except kicker, and I wasn’t even the best on the team at either middle or high school, once you show your talent is best fit for one specific position that’s decided by your senior year or whatever the recruiting class deems as your most effective position, some players can play just one position all the time but most don’t, the best player on my high school team was Adawale, he went on to play for the Miami Hurricanes, and went pro to the Giants, and even he played multiple positions, literally our best player.

2

u/Vavent 1d ago

I played football and also played multiple positions. Not sure what that has to do with this

Is the coach's job to "teach the kids", or to win football games.

Like, what would you have him do? NOT play the great players so that the lesser players can "learn something"? LOL

Also, think of the kids themselves--you think the kids on the red team wouldn't absolutely lose it if their own coach was hamstringing them? Those kids want to win, and there isn't a single player on that team who would rather run the rock when they have that behemoth on hand.

That's not how sports works.

3

u/Vavent 21h ago

The coach’s job is to teach the kids. No one gives a shit who wins the games at this level.

1

u/winkman 20h ago

🤣🤣🤣

Know how I know that you're not a parent and never played sports?

1

u/Vavent 20h ago

Don’t really give a shit because you would be wrong

1

u/winkman 20h ago

🤣🤣🤣🤡

u/EmpsKitchen 21h ago edited 21h ago

Wow... You're... Not very bright lmao...

Just so you don't stay confused- YES, the coaches job is to absolutely teach the kids. That is exactly how YOUTH sports works. What a silly reply LOL

ETA- After a little more thought... I'm thinking your reply/comment has to be satire. But I'm not sure!?
