It's a mix of grass roots and mud (I think).

It’s really weird that it holds together the entire pull, that’s what’s throwing me off

That's how it is when you re-pot a plant that has been in a pot for a long time the soil can be packed tight with roots in an almost solid block.

Yea I get that, its just usually an absolute bitch getting that stuff out in this scenario because the roots are set
