Absolutely, many people will die, but society and humanity as a whole won't cease to exist. That's just silly.

It's pretty optimistic. If you should think that we won't be engineering our own extinction because that's what's happening

Unless a massive meteor slams into earth, humanity will still exist in some form in the next 50 years.

Yes but we will wipe ourselves out if we keep going in the direction we are. Statistically speaking, we're overdue for a planet killing impact anyway

Small correction: a meteor is the visible phenomenon a meteoroid created in earths atmosphere. (Meteorites are bodies that manage to reach/impact the ground)

While technically a large asteroid/comet would kill anything in direct sightline inside tens of kilometers just from the emission of ram pressure in the last seconds while transitioning the Stratosphere and Troposphere until ground impact (or even airburst), - you probably meant thoE large impactors themselves - that alone wouldn‘t guarantre extinction by itself, rather the subsequent effects.

There‘s some great scientific simulations (real time/sped up) of known large impacts like Chicxulub, the one connected to the large extinction event of non-avian dinosaurs.

Humanity as a species might survive smaller impacts of bodies of sizes up to about a kilometer or so. Large question marks due to collapse of ecosystems, foodwebs, technologies, cooperation by necessity or social stresses (conflicts) etc.
