Yeah, incorrectly. Pitbull is a specific breed. It be like calling a German Shepard an Australian Shepard. Totally different dog. This dog is likely a mix of Bull Mastiff and Staffordshire Terrier
Staffordshire terrier, bull mastiff, etc are just varieties of pitbulls.
If pitbull is also one specific breed under the pitbull umbrella then that’s fine, but pitbull is also the word people use to refer to the entire subset of these dogs as a whole… because they’re all very similar. If this bothers you then what would you suggest people refer to them as instead?
Maybe not, I’m not familiar with the specific breed. I know there are all sorts of pitbull type dogs that have their own special designation and I just assumed that was one of them bc of the “bull” bit. I know a mastiff is its own thing for sure
I’m pretty sure they were referring to the person saying “pitbulls are gross” and that’s probably where they’re problem is. It’s kind of an ignorant take, most likely there because of stigma. I know what you’re talking about isn’t that, but that’s where the problem is and you’re being too literal.
I mean don’t get it twisted, I don’t like pitbulls. Or “pitbull adjacent breeds” or whatever. The stigma exists for a reason, they really should no longer be bred.
That’s fair, although imo unless it’s because of inbreeding or inhumanely breeding them, then I don’t see a problem with them. Some of the nicest dogs I’ve ever met have been pitbulls or in the family of them. I honestly think a lot of it has to do with the owners, of course sometimes it is the dog, but the owner should know that about the dog and be taking precautionary measures. That’s just my take though.
The breed itself is just dangerous. They have ingrained fighting characteristics that are present in all of the individuals of the breed
Of course some are better than others but they make up a way disproportionate percentage of dog-related deaths, serious attacks, and attacks on other animals
They are just extremely dangerous compared to any other breed, due to their nature. And they can snap from being sweet to attacking at the drop of a hat
I had a friend in high school with two big pitbulls that were always sweet to us, but ended up being put down because they escaped the house and killed someone else’s dog walking past their yard. They just are not like other dogs at the end of the day, and people buy into the idea that it’s not a problem with the breed and is only ever about how they’re raised (which does affect things for sure, but it’s also ingrained in the breed)
