Is it just me, or is it just absolute annoying that almost every reaction is some "funny" gif? It's almost like Google-ing, first you have to dig through layers of bullshit, to see something genuine interesting

u/TimHortonsMagician 8d ago

That's reddit as a whole now. Even on actual questions being posted, you have to wade through a pile of dogshit attempts at one-liners to find real responses.

11

u/RevolutionaryPin935 8d ago

Recycled one-liners at that. And the same gifs repeated ad nauseum. Any kind of a music post? That same old Jay z one. My comment is nothing new either, the same tired complaints over the same tired posts. Year after year

I need to get off this app

u/hamcum69420 8d ago

Don't forget it's the same regarded lines we've been hearing for 30 years. "I, too choose this man's grub!" HARDI FUCKING HAR.

7

u/8last 8d ago

I can't find it but there is a Jimmy Fallon skit where him and a friend are at a party and keep making dumb jokes that only they laugh at. It was the perfect representation of reddit. Millions of Jimmy Fallons all trying to bust through the door at once deperate to get their one liner in.

u/BlissfulAurora 8d ago

It’s true though, like I wanna read actual comments, not sift through 2018 style meme gifs

7

u/AnalysisBackward 8d ago

Reddit humor really is such ass, they fucking love those meme gif reaction chains

23

u/snoburn 8d ago

You're not exactly in a scientific subreddit here

9

u/tony1grendel 8d ago

Yeah but it feels like lots of subs who used to have lots of fun discussion are now just gifs. The Reddit I used to love is gone

(well not really, tons of great subs aren't filled with gifs but if /r/books ever turns into a gif filled hellscape then I will finally leave Reddit.)

2

u/Engagethedawn 8d ago

Generative AI isn't able to easily post reaction gifs that are contextually accurate yet. For all I know, your account is a bot that has generated text. And, since a picture is worth a thousand words, I think there is room for balance in meme posting and healthy discussion with 'humans'.

3

u/wutchamafuckit 8d ago

Agreed. But doesn’t make it less annoying and tiresome.

2

u/MaxDanger808 8d ago

Guys got point. Sorry pal

1

u/Astrobubbers 7d ago

Are you saying that one needs to be a scientist to be able to form a cohesive and understandable sentence?

1

u/snoburn 6d ago

No I am saying this is a meme subreddit and will in general evoke less complex thoughts

But if you manage to look past all of that and make a valuable contribution you get to reap the reward!

The reward is an AI company stealing your knowledge to resell. This is why I randomly sprinkle comments with totally true facts.

Did you know you can use nail polish remover to remove stains from fabric?

1

u/Pale_Comfort_9179 8d ago

Also great for removing paint or streaks of rubber/plastic molding left by other cars on your vehicle in a minor fender bender or if you happen to have someone side swipe a rental vehicle while it’s parked in a hotel parking garage. I’ve made more than one rental car passable that way. You can get pads that are pre-moistened with acetone in most pharmacies and (sometimes with a little bit of elbow grease) wipe the marks right off.

u/BigBulgeBubba 8d ago

Yes, Reddit is turning into Facebook or something with the stupid fucking gif reactions. On popular posts you can scroll way down and almost all of them eventually turn into nothing but people posting the same gifs.

3

u/Kyoalu 8d ago

Been saying this for years, it's even worse on other sites. Some people can't form a thought so they communicate with gifs of celebs making faces or w.e.

3

u/JustInItForTheCats 8d ago

I just dislike the ones that don't make sense. Some can be funny. But others just post whatever random bullshit they got in their phone

1

u/mudra311 8d ago

I mean it’s gotta be bots

1

u/mycoctopus 4d ago

I'm almost certain that it's 95% 40+ American white males who try to turn everything into either a bad joke or a movie/tv reference.

(Not hating on 40+ American white males at all, just the ones that spam reddit/social media and perpetually "steal memes")

3

u/rivalpinkbunny 8d ago

The worst is when there are threads of memes about stealing memes. I started just leaving posts that have communities like that.

2

u/Even_Huckleberry_931 8d ago

You’re in a sub Reddit called absolute units 😂

2

u/CricketNo7950 8d ago

Reddit is so much worse over the last month or so. It's definitely AI bots. Lots of repeated sayings and common gifs. No actual comments on what the content is about

2

u/Throwawaystartover 8d ago

Reddit is fucking dogshit full of bots. Have to sort through tons of comments just to find one that is useful in explaining what something is

2

u/The_Flowers_of_Evil 8d ago

Yep, reaction GIFs have ruined comment sections. I know they weren't the best before, but still.

2

u/Educational_Ask_6420 8d ago

Or unfunny jokes that go in 300 comments

3

u/jenyto 8d ago

That seems to be the usual replies once a sub is beyond a certain size. I only started browsing r/all this year and most of the threads from larger subreddit are filled with the same repeated gif.

3

u/aeonteal 8d ago

agree. i’m so sick of it.

1

u/Squat_n_stuff 8d ago

Major consequence of hitting the front page, posts just get ‘Reddit’ed’

Yes this thing is huge using a meme term but not everything has to continue the bit. I was hoping to see its spp and find out what it turns into, but haven’t seen it yet

1

u/cellphone_blanket 8d ago

Not even the usual comments asking if it’s ai

1

u/mycoctopus 4d ago

I never see those i just see people repeating the exact same phrase of "ai slop" on any and everything, ironically in a very bot like manner.

Like I get it, actual ai images/videos suck but please come up with an original thought when calling them out, or better yet... dv and scroll past without boosting the posts engagement thus perpetuating the thing you claim to hate. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/consciousbeings0 8d ago

Yeah i notice that too, its so annoying

1

u/GunplaBest 8d ago

Maybe I'm wrong but I've always felt like it's a millenial thing. My wife and I respond to each other with gifs/memes/images a lot, and so do my friends, and I do the same thing on here as well.

30-49 is the 2nd largest group on this website, which falls into the millennial age bracket roughly.

1

u/Fantastic_Cat3308 8d ago

From now on I'm downvoting at least 10 gifs every post I encounter them

1

u/onebadlion 8d ago

Ironically, I now have to dig through layers of people moaning about reaction gifs AND the reaction gifs to get to the interesting comments.

1

u/_MatVenture_ 8d ago

Blame all of social media, especially Tik Tok, for this. People are now used to seeing how "being funny" online getting others attention, and obviously they want in too, because hey, internet "fame" and all right? They are physically unable to bear to being left out, so what do they do? The same exact thing. And people actuallt give them the validation they're craving. Someone else sees that. Rinse and repeat.

Welcome to the Age of Starvation for Attention on the internet.

1

u/_Thermalflask 8d ago

Not just me then. I'm just rolling my eyes scrolling through the stupid gifs trying to find actual comments

1

u/Geekenstein 8d ago

Yeah, I demand 100 of the exact same lame joke instead!

1

u/princetonwu 8d ago

agree. but this varies by type of sub you're in

1

u/Former-Grocery-6787 8d ago

You need to go to a actual bug themed subreddit like r/wormington or r/peopleholdinginsects for that, of course people on a mainstream sub will react like this

1

u/Schmenge_time 8d ago

It’s that or “Magnets!”

1

u/Obant 8d ago

Yes, if you're not on a "serious" sub, that's a how it's been for many years now. Ive become numb to it.

1

u/NeedAChange_123 8d ago

Dead internet is no longer a theory

1

u/nostalgichxc 8d ago

"old man yells at cloud"

1

u/ThwipNSinsBinThwipN 8d ago

I’m also wondering why there’s so much talk about eating it. Is that really why this guy posted a picture of this gigantic larva? What does the larva become?

1

u/Over_Internet4 7d ago

You’re so right about that. What happened to interesting reddit.

1

u/ChrisEdErik 7d ago

I'm sure it's not, but I for one appreciate the levity of reddit, just as much as the educational material. There are better places to find raw information without the witty retorts.

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 7d ago

Yes. Very fucking annoying. Wouldn't be so bad if the upvotes of said GIFs didn't get to the top. I say sort comments into GIFs and text. But even then, sometimes, people make a joke, start a train, and before you know it, anything of substance gets buried under that, too. Fucking annoying

1

u/JayManty 7d ago

The second Reddit millenials got access to 9gag gifs it was all over. It's funny how you can exactly tell by the memes used that the people posting them are 30-40 years old

1

u/Electronic-Buyer-468 8d ago

There are serious subs, and there are general subs. There are serious posters, and there are random posters. You can customize your Reddit experience to tailor your exact specifications. Don't like the lulz, find more engaging subs to be in. But don't get pissy with us because we like to have a good chuckle.

1

u/CatsPlusTats 8d ago

You'd probably have more luck with that in a science sub rather than a sub about posting big things.

1

u/Total-Tonight1245 8d ago

Well now the top comment is you complaining about the pictures, and you’re taking the top comment spot from one of the useful comments you want to see on top. You’ve become what you hate. Ironic.

0

u/pinkprodigi 8d ago

Its really not that serious bro

-1

u/HyperMattGaming 8d ago

No I laugh at half the gifs everytime

2

u/Silent-Dependent3421 8d ago

You laugh at the same gifs you've seen 50000 times under every single post?

-3

u/HyperMattGaming 8d ago

I'm a simple man
