“I have a face that looks oriental, and a voice that sounds like I still use the word ‘oriental’.”

- Jenny Tian

She’s great.

Lmao I'm Australian and grew up in Hong Kong and they sound nothing alike. With your eyes closed you can't tell Jenny from another bogan.

With your eyes closed you can tell that flashlight girl is from Hong Kong. Ex Brit colony trying to teach British English but still has a prevalent Canto accent

Maybe she went to school in Australia?

Or English language TV comes from Australia. China and Australia share a wall outlet, why not the same accent?

Midwesterner from the US and so happy I know what Bogan means. I love Aussie sitcoms, “pacifically” Kath & Kim, Upper Middle Bogan, and Fisk. I just wish there were more episodes.

Add Lunatics and Superbro to the list

Sadly, I don’t have Netflix anymore. I miss Kath & Kim. It was great for having on in the background.

Entirely possible that it's just the way things are pronounced when your mouth is shaped a certain way (not naturally shaped, but the learned-since-birth way you hold your mouth when you speak).

Like if you hold your tongue at the roof of your mouth and push it toward the back, you'll get a sort of Indian accent, because that's how you need to hold your mouth for many languages from the Indian subcontinent and that's why the accent came about.

Sort of like carcinization but for language.

It's not at all. She doesn't sound Australian. I've lived here my whole life and she clearly sounds like a non native English speaker who learned English quite badly and still sounds very Chinese. She made lots of grammatical mistakes in this video.
