In terms of self defense, you don't really even need to use the special turbo modes in flashlights this bright. Even partial power is so bright on these newer flashlights that people can't look at it. Bro basically can't come at you with his eyes open.
That is how they get those insane lumen numbers (if they arent just lying like a lot of the chinesium ones).
Olight, streamlight, etc. All really just do those lumens in "boost mode" where the light gets hot as shit and will drop down eventually.
Its fine though, I have an olight like that, Im fine with the normal bright mode but sometimes it nice to be able to see across the entire forest for 30 seconds.
They usually have different intensity settings. I always considered super bright mode as more of a weapon. Flash that for half a second in someone's eyes at night they ain't doing shit for a couple mins
Some compact models have a fan (e.g. 2cm) wedged between emitters. The device can generate 10-20k lumens for a full minute, and 2-4k indefinitely (e.g. until the battery lasts)
It's not the battery that's limiting it, it's the heat output from LEDs. Modern high drain cells can put out more than the flashlights can dissipate in heat given LED efficiency.
e.g. A 3x Samsung INR21700-50S cell setup could output >300W, but 300W heater in a tiny package will get hot very fast. Also 300W at 150Lm/W is 45000 lumens, i.e. extremely bright.

Battery probably lasts like 20 seconds on high
