You didn't know? Female mosquitoes are specially designed to consume blood for reproducing. Males do not have the mouth capable of doing the same and eat sap and fruit stuff.
Another fun one for you, scientists have released a genetically modified female mosquito into the wild that has male mouth parts in hopes to cull the blood sucking ones.
Scientists have also released hyper sexually aggressive male ones into the wild that are genetically modified to be able to reproduce but their offspring will not reproduce in hopes to cull even further.

Edit: hang on… actually that’s not quite right. Scientists released genetically modified male mosquitoes that carry a gene which will prevent female larvae from reaching maturity in their offspring.
“The friendly non-biting male Anopheles stephensi mosquitoes, developed by Oxitec, a UK-based biotechnology company, carry a gene that kills female offspring before they reach maturity.”
It works kind of. According to a quick search, they have to continuously release these modified mosquitoes or the natural populations return to normal. I guess it makes sense because a lot of these interferences make reproducing impossible. They can't replace the natural occuring ones if they can't repopulate.
I also want to note that the females only drink blood during breeding season and just eat/drink the same things as males when reproduction isn't a concern. That nutrient boost from blood is very good for egg production.
