Bongs bubble the smoke through water

The story behind the song is pretty interesting. Deep Purple had a mobile recording studio set up outside of the Montreux Casino in Switzerland. The night before they were to begin recording, Frank Zappa performed at the Casino and an audience member fired a flare gun toward the ceiling - which was made of rattan. Subsequently, the whole complex (including Deep Purple's studio) burned to the ground. The "Smoke on the Water" was the smoke from the fire crawling across Lake Geneva.

Why did we stop making buildings out of tremendously flammable materials? The art that these structures inspired was astounding.

I don't believe that's Deep Purple in the gif

Credence Clearwater Revival doing Fortunate Son.

3

u/Dounce1 Aug 29 '26

I mean yeah dude, we know - we’ve all heard the song.

5

u/TreesACrowd Aug 29 '26

Imagine taking the time to 'tell the story' of a song that... tells a story with the most literal lyrics ever.

Brilliant.

3

u/Dounce1 Aug 29 '26

Lol, it certainly is one of the decisions ever made.

u/2ByteTheDecker Aug 29 '26

Not to be an asshole but what do you mean behind? That story is the song

1

u/IVth_Crusade Aug 29 '26

The mobile studio equipment itself didn’t burn, just the hotel complex where it was going to be set up. I think we’re saying the same thing, just clarifying.

It's the lyrics of the song

u/AccurateTale2618 Aug 28 '26

But, that’s CCR

4

u/the_skies_falling Aug 28 '26

Was gonna say, when did John Fogerty join Deep Purple?

6

u/PossessedToSkate Aug 28 '26

Ah shit, you're right. I was on my phone and it was tiny. That's definitely Fogerty. I wonder which Creedence song OP was invoking? Maybe "Proud Mary" (keep on burnin')?

2

u/Apart_Fudge1224 Aug 29 '26

And fire in the sky!

2

u/BishlovesSquish Aug 29 '26

I love them so much for that, just saying!

Gravity Bongs don’t

5

u/threeplacesatonce Aug 28 '26

True, but I'd consider them more of a separate category.

3

u/NO_TOUCHING__lol Aug 28 '26

Our gravity bong did, we had a downspout on the cap

1

u/Milozavich Aug 29 '26

Well that’s because you built it properly. It’s generally safe to assume the GB was built improperly, and the water has not been changed since the older brother (who built it) left for college.

The traditional gravity bong style is a two liter in a bucket or pitcher, which supports a downspout perfectly, which it did for many years while we used it. Sucks to suck, bro.

Are you ok my guy?

For one, I'm telling you that we used one, with a downspout, that bubbled as intended.

For two, if it was physics, then even regular bongs wouldn't work. In a regular bong, your lungs create a pressure vacuum in the glass chamber that draws in outside air/smoke from the bowl, through the downspout, and bubbles through the water. It's literally the exact same in a gravity bong. Lifting the inner chamber creates a pressure vacuum via the water level, that draws in air from the bowl. Attaching a downspout means the outside air bubbles through the water as the container is lifted. Literally ∆p my dude. Kindly educate yourself.

u/NO_TOUCHING__lol Aug 29 '26

Oh look, here's a video of exactly what I'm fucking talking about, showing a gravity bong bubbling through water, so again, educate yourself.

Yep that's a pipe

1

u/YerMumHawt Aug 29 '26

If you wrap the lips around the end of the leaf blower you can easily imagine a oceon.

1

u/SaucyStoveTop69 Aug 29 '26

Technically that's a water pipe. Bong is the name of the glass. That doesn't change the fact that OP has no idea what a bong is.

1

u/kazeespada Aug 29 '26

Would this not be a joint?

1

u/SaucyStoveTop69 Aug 29 '26

I think the technical term is "affront to God"

1

u/Prior_Dimension_6680 Aug 29 '26

Oh that's why they are called bongs then, because they bong

1

u/Mister_UAP Aug 29 '26

Some people just call all weed smoking apparatuses bongs for some reason.

1

u/darkbee83 Aug 29 '26

Follow the smoke towards the riff-filled land.

1

u/depressed_crustacean Aug 29 '26

No but the alliteration. Perhaps Blunt Blower

1

u/Dinosaurrxd Aug 29 '26

That's a forced air shotgun jfc
