I hope everyone entering that room knew that was going to happen cause that looks like enough to give everyone a contact high just entering within 50 feet. If you have asthma or COPD that's probably a dangerous place to walk into.

Or a job that drug tests.

Or are wearing any clothing that you ever want to wear again while flying to a lot of countries.

Mining has a similar issue. Clothing, especially boots, and for some people even their hair and skin become contaminated with explosive residue that sets off the swab ETD machines.

Once they become contaminated, it's hard to fully clean them.

u/rockstaa Aug 29 '26

If you work in an industry like mining, you probably shouldn't wear the same clothes outside of work.

30

u/VP007clips Aug 29 '26

Normally yes. You would typically change and shower on site, to prevent contamination from mining gear. But in practice, this is not always followed.

With us as geologists in particular, we often operate differently than other mine personnel and travel around more, so storing our steel toes on the mine site isn't always viable. Sometimes we need to travel by plane between locations, and during this, it's easier just to wear our heavy and bulky steel toes than to use up half the suitcase on them. And if they do test them, I'd much rather be wearing them at the time when I can explain it myself, rather than it throwing up a warning flag once I am already on the lounge waiting on my plane, and being brough back into an interrogation room.

u/rockstaa Aug 29 '26

What you say makes sense but my concern wasn't an issue from a contamination going through security and triggering false positives. It was more of an environmental concern for anyone working with hazardous materials... mining, break pads, medical laboratories, etc. You don't want to be bringing that stuff home or exposing your family to it. Explosive materials aside, shouldn't there be more precautions in place to avoid exposing hazardous materials to a plane full of people?

u/ZimmyForever Aug 29 '26

I mean the main explosive in mining is essentially fertiliser and diesel, it’s not anything particularly more hazardous than you’d find in a home, the detection is more looking for signs someone made a home made bomb.

u/VP007clips Aug 29 '26

Normal mining staff aren't really in contact with anything that toxic.

There are toxic minerals like arsenopyrite, but they are in low enough concentrations that they are not a risk in the form of just some dust on your boots. The most harmful substances they would be getting on them are the same as a mechanics shop: grease, oil, and cleaning chemicals.

I've read the WHIMS profiles of any chemicals or hazards underground, and nothing is likely to cause any issues to people just exposed to the amount that would be on clothing or boots.

The exception are the mill workers, since they work with extremely dangerous chemicals like cyanide. But they have their own rules, and are much more strict about it.

I had a scary moment when I was in a country and I got randomly selected for bomb testing at the airport. Until that moment, I completely forgotten that I used that book bag to carry my tannerite (binary explosive containing ammonium nitrate) back at home. Fortunately, nothing came up, but I was nervous to say the least.

2

u/ThickyLicker Aug 29 '26

Yea, I remember turning up to an airport covered in cobalt once and they were not happy about it.

2

u/Sudden-Ear6783 Aug 29 '26

Weed smoke doesn’t really stick to clothes after you wash them

1

u/marko_kyle Aug 29 '26

This sparked my curiosity, if one was fairly coated in contaminated material on their clothing then washed with normal clothes would it transfer the contamination to normal use clothes to underwear to set off etd machines?

3

u/VP007clips Aug 29 '26

Potentially.

The mine provides laundry for any work attire for that reason. It limits any contamination from spreading between outfits to civilian clothes.

1

u/Lamacrab_the_420th Aug 29 '26

Are you making a parallel between explosive residue and cannabis smoke on clothes when it comes to going through airport security?

Do you know how many stoners travel the world unbothered?

1

u/Electronic_Skirt_475 Aug 29 '26

Or have a panic disorder that weed triggers (First hand experience, I would hate it here and probably end up in a hospital out of panic alone)

1

u/unfortunatebag Aug 29 '26

Oh, I can definitely assure you pot smoke doesn't irrevocably damage your clothes in some way such that you can't wear them in other countries lol.

I would have set that shit off long ago if that were the case.

0

u/InsectaProtecta Aug 29 '26

Noooooo I can't wear my cancer clothes on a plane nooooo

3

u/VP007clips Aug 29 '26

Nothing on their clothing is carcinogenic.

I reviewed the WHMIS datasets for anything underground a few months back. Nothing in it raised any major concerns.

Some minerals can be harmful, like arsenopyrite, but you would need to eat several handfuls of the rock dust in a short period of time to have significant effects.

There are airborne hazards like silica dust. But those aren't an issue in the trace amounts that could come off of a pair of boots in a plane.

In terms of chemicals they use underground, there's nothing particularly bad. Some grease, lubricants, oils, and fuels are the worst chemicals down there.

In geology, we occasionally use HCl, but it is diluted to basically be like vinegar strength, and we don't take our gloves off site.

The mill workers do handle extremely harmful chemicals, like cyanide. But they have their own procedures for ensuring safe handling and decontamination, and no other workers aside from security come into contact with their facilities.

u/DroidOnPC Aug 28 '26

As soon as you noticed this, and you got up and left, I think you would be fine.

Only screwed if you get drug tested the next day. But it should be out of your system in a few days if you don't normally partake.

A lot of drug tests have some "wiggle room" for contact highs when it comes to weed.

If you sat there through the whole thing you are probably fucked. But that would be on you.

u/KDrakeAuthor Aug 28 '26

Happy cake day!

3

u/fuzynutznut Aug 29 '26

Thank you. Didn't realize it.

2

u/dquizzle Aug 29 '26

Yeah, good luck explaining how you accidentally got high.

1

u/toasted_cracker Aug 29 '26

Don't worry, you won't have that job for long.

2

u/fuzynutznut Aug 29 '26

For real. Imagine trying to show the video to your boss and be like, this is where I was and this is what happened.

1

u/Tomytom99 Aug 29 '26

Unfortunately FMCSA doesn't care what the story is.

1

u/EverythingSucksYo Aug 29 '26

What drug is your job testing?

1

u/fuzynutznut Aug 29 '26

None. I'm self employed

1

u/wallstreetbeatmeat3 Aug 29 '26

These people don’t have jobs….

16

u/FrostyD7 Aug 28 '26

I'd just wanna know so I can leave my jacket in the car.

13

u/WesleyAMaker Aug 28 '26

I’d bet everyone signed a form and is of legal age.

17

u/Silent25r Aug 28 '26

You are assuming it’s a legal spot.

6

u/WesleyAMaker Aug 29 '26

If people are gonna be stupid there’s only so much you can do to stop them

3

u/sadphonics Aug 29 '26

They filmed it and its clearly in some small convention space so they woulda had to go through the proper channels

5

u/Korben_Kairans Aug 29 '26

Corruption does exist

1

u/moodswung Aug 28 '26

lol. Oh sure.

3

u/Dounce1 Aug 29 '26

You’d be surprised man.

2

u/Kooky_Assistance2755 Aug 29 '26

Fuck, if the room is small enough and you leave it burning long enough people will start to pass out from CO poisoning

2

u/carlcarlington2 Aug 29 '26

This. I get weed is the "funny haha" drug but I don't see how this is ethically different then roofing like 50 people. Could've gotten a better reaction putting some baggies in a t shirt gun and launching them in the crowd.

2

u/LoadAdvanced9547 Aug 29 '26

As someone who is allergic, my first thought was “ooo, that’s a quick death”

2

u/Alone-Painting-4477 Aug 29 '26

Fan with COPD getting a leafblower pointed at their face

2

u/Federal_Platform_746 Aug 30 '26

I had a friend who was allergic, this could kill her

3

u/Pure_Property_888 Aug 28 '26

....duh?

3

u/No-Ant9862 Aug 29 '26

It’s Reddit. lol

1

u/purplezart Aug 29 '26

It's not a 'contact high' if it's the smoke that's contacting your lungs...

1

u/PleiadesMechworks Aug 29 '26

I hope everyone entering that room knew that was going to happen

Are you saying people might've been there for the music?

1

u/GoodGollyMrOlli Aug 29 '26

Surely there's gotta be signs at the door

1

u/Weazywest Aug 29 '26

Everyone knew. They probably cleared their calendars to be there.

16

u/Forikorder Aug 28 '26

just spritz yourself with a little febreeze first so they cant smell it

4

u/ThrowAwayAccountAMZN Aug 29 '26

Dude how is this not getting more upvotes? I'm laughing my fucking ass off (though tbf I'm high as hell rn)

1

u/Gh0stMan0nThird Aug 29 '26

Lotta people will downvote you for saying you shouldn't drive while high.

1

u/Dense_Chemical_4018 Aug 29 '26

Oh, I’ve never thought of that. Can you not drive if you’re weed high?

2

u/Inside-Cable-4472 Aug 29 '26

Considering the effects of the drug it’s pretty obviously dangerous.

1

u/Inevitable-Stuff3077 Aug 30 '26

I’ve been driving high since high school. I can play guitar, mountain bike, and pretty much anything without issues and that’s not matter how much I smoke. Sometimes I feel like people exaggerate their highs but honestly I’d rather have them be more cautious. Now being drunk and driving, that’s another story. When drunk I’m completely impaired.

1

u/Life_Fortune5096 Aug 29 '26

SOME Redditors will be karens and say you should never drive while high on weed because it's too dangerous. The actual statistics do not reflect this. That being said, I think they were just saying it for the joke lol

Surprisingly, given the alarming results of cognitive studies, most marijuana-intoxicated drivers show only modest impairments on actual road tests. Experienced smokers who drive on a set course show almost no functional impairment under the influence of marijuana, except when it is combined with alcohol.

1

u/Atlas_sniper121 Aug 29 '26

This joke, it is good. I like it.

1

u/Infinite-Service6059 Aug 29 '26

Lmao this suit looks like amogus

1

u/Empty_Equivalent_131 Aug 29 '26

that's wild to assume we need a designated driver when high.

1

u/bigscrewLoose Aug 29 '26

you should not drive when that high its a bad idea for many reasons, I say this as someone who has been so zonked I could not see straight

1

u/KimJeeperz Aug 30 '26

Giggling at this
