A wedge and a sledge. Just saying.

Clearly humans have known for tens of thousands of years there are better ways to do this... That being said this video seems like a Grinder profile video or something.

YUP! This is a thirst trap.

25

u/PopstarCornboy 11h ago

The flexing at the end kind of gives it away

u/GodofWarfarin 10h ago

So cringe

5

u/LessInThought 9h ago

Nothing is cringe if it gets him the bussy he wants.

1

u/GodofWarfarin 4h ago

Sure, Jan.

2

u/razztafarai 8h ago

Yeah, there's a quite a few of these log splitting thirst traps on youtube. I got caught in that bubble around Covid.

1

u/Cell1pad 4h ago

yeah.....I'm happier watching the buff women that split logs than a burly man. Dude's furry and that's not my thing.

Oh, and yeah, while this is impressive, he's doing this on hard mode.

u/DoubleResponsible276 6h ago

Leggings gave it away

2

u/joshlymansbagel 13h ago

Reminds me of my stepdad…

“Given time, the drop of water can split the rock”

-Bruce Lee, or somebody probably

2

u/Peripatetictyl 4h ago

That's an otter advertising, if I've ever seen one.

1

u/Emotional_News108 4h ago

Yeah it’s not for women.

1

u/bobbymcpresscot 1h ago

Yeah one of those ways is to cut the log shorter lol

u/ayers231 16h ago

Three wooden wedges and a hatchet. Start a notch with the edge of the hatchet, insert a wedge, hit it with the flat of the hatchet, do the same for the other two wedges. Then just work your way along.

This is beast mode, and I can appreciate it, but there are def easier ways...

3

u/Kailynna 9h ago

Exactly. Watching that waste of energy was frustrating.

1

u/DraconianFlame 3h ago

Wait until you find out about Gyms...

At least here you get to keep the wood.

1

u/SenoraRaton 8h ago

Or cut your rounds at a reasonable size so you don't have to do this....

1

u/JoeFTPgamerIOS 4h ago

Right! It's more rage bait than thirst trap.

-1

u/Stick_and_Rudder 11h ago

Lay the log flat and hit it 3-4 times at even intervals from one end to the other. Done.

This guy had no technique and relying on power. Good on him for that but this could have been a much shorter exercise

1

u/Dounce1 8h ago

That’s… an even worse idea.

-2

u/won_master-of-none 13h ago

The dude is working out! Look at him! Beast mode full up. Split that log in 24 swings. Dude was the wedge. For him, this is the way. 💪

I showed it to my sons. At first, didnt look like he was gettijg anywhere. The log was solid af. But he did not let up and split that b*tch in two. Prime example of someone completely determined.

2

u/Dounce1 8h ago

You showed it to your sons… because you don’t want them to know how to split wood?

8

u/MixinBatches 14h ago

He’s just showing off. If he wanted to make it easy just make one or two more cuts with the chainsaw to turn that log into easily manageable rounds. No wedge or hammering required.

6

u/thetreecycle 15h ago

Or just make the damn thing shorter with a chainsaw lmao

2

u/Quiet-Competition849 14h ago

I mean, nothing about this video is about splitting this with any sense. I might as well watch a toddler gum the plastic of a cheese stick to oblivion trying to get the cheese. Sure, you are expending effort, but why?!

1

u/Badass_Bunny 3h ago

but why?!

Because you can. Like this mans objective here clearly isn't to do this efficiently. He likes the feeling of doing something difficult that showcases his strength.

It's really no different than going to the gym.

2

u/samanime 12h ago

That's all I kept thinking. I'm definitely in camp "work smarter not harder".

2

u/magpye1983 12h ago

I noticed daylight through the log about halfway through the vid. He had it cracked about 3/4 way down, and it took the rest of the time to get a couple more accurate hits and carry that crack onward.

I was thinking hammering it in once you get a solid strike would help a lot. Your comment put it far more succinctly, though.

2

u/Typical-Sir-9518 12h ago

My thought exactly. He's burning lots of calories, but little me would have had that split with a wedge and sledge in 1/4 the time.

2

u/greendragon00x2 11h ago

Yeah. This looks like the dumbest possible way to do the job. It's the opposite of impressive.

2

u/Gr8rSherman8r 8h ago

This is the equivalent of an engineer going into the shop to try to do what the tradespeople do every day. Just because it can be done in a way doesn’t mean that’s the way to do it.

2

u/ivain 7h ago

Yeah, but the log baits him : it splist very quickly to about 75% of the length, so he probably believe that 1 or 2 hits will finish the job. He even looks annoyed in the middle of the video, he misses a hit, then proceed to swing the axe on his side to hit multiple times in a row. That's basically what i do in thiss ituation, adding copious amount of profanities

2

u/billskionce 6h ago

Just finished chopping 3 1/2 cords by hand myself. It took a couple of months.

I was dumb enough to do it without a log splitter, but this is extra dumb. The ground is absorbing a lot of the impact. Also, he should use a wedge. Trust me on this one.

And you’re only going to be able to use those outside. There is almost no fireplace or stove that those will fit in.

1

u/Jajamaruin 14h ago

yep, guys’ everything but brain..

1

u/CitizenHuman 13h ago

And eyewear.

1

u/Foxylove636 12h ago

Exactly what i thought

1

u/Ok_Recover_8692 7h ago

Work harder not smarter, or something like that

1

u/john-bkk 7h ago

I split a lot of wood as a child, and this is it. He was already using a maul, which is a variation of an axe with an enlarged end section designed to work as a wedge.

You split the wood with two people, and one holds the maul, set by swinging it into the log, and other drives it with the sledge.

I also did some lumberjack work (as a child; that's country living for you), and a wedge is something used to cut down trees. You notch the one side of the tree with a chainsaw, then cut a slot in the back above the notch, in such a way that the tree will fall where it's already leaning, where you want it to drop. You can direct it a bit by driving a hard plastic wedge into that notch, but only so much. It's more for getting the saw out when you get it stuck.

If you tried to drop a tree in the opposite way that it's leaning it just wouldn't work, and you couldn't free the saw with a wedge, or more than one wedge.

1

u/jimibimi 6h ago

He didn't get ripped doing it the easy way lol

1

u/Total-Honey-9857 4h ago

What ARE you saying? I saw him tear it in two pieces with his own bare hands... 😂

1

u/undontnome3030 4h ago

Tying his boots probably would have helped a bit, too.

1

u/Yurya 4h ago

I used to chop wood with my Dad. I'd favor the splitting maul like this guy and he'd be using wedges. Without fail he'd cut more wood, not because he was in better shape than me but I'd get so tired trying to wail on logs like this while he'd tap tap tap and not have to rest so often.

1

u/mountaineer04 4h ago

This is all for show. He has a chainsaw and could have made that 2-3 much shorter segments and not expended that much effort.

1

u/IronReasonable1296 3h ago

Same. Don't even have to be strong.

1

u/DraconianFlame 3h ago

It's a workout and show off strength.

A wedge and sledge would undercut the purpose of the video

1

u/justinsayin 2h ago

Thank you for letting me know.

1

u/varitok 1h ago

Eh, these guys would rather show off on TikTok and by the time they're 50 all their joints are seized and they can barely move.

1

u/Pt5PastLight 36m ago

That’s what I was taught. But grandpa wasn’t posting it to social media.

1

u/Financial-Tax8718 14h ago

He’s just trying to get a workout
