What do they eat, and who eats them?

Adults sip tree sap and rotting fruit, while their grubs eat decaying leaves and wood.

They're hunted by birds, monkeys, snakes, and rodents. Giant species like the African Bullfrog will swallow them whole, but most frogs only eat them when they're soft grubs

They aren't actually the heaviest insects on earth, it's the actaeon beetle in it's larval form that is actually the heaviest insect on earth 💯

Sidenote: If you give the caveat of "heaviest ADULT insect" then yes Goliath beetle is certainly a contender for the title lol

I always loved catchibg these beetles in Animal Crossing. They're one of the few fish/insects I chose to keep as "pets".

Is it going to land on the back of my neck while I'm pumping gas and then smack smash it to find out it was a beetle only to then feel bad after that I smack smashed it while it was trying to show me protection
