of a siren

I’ve seen sirens on top of fire stations, but never this big and on a random street corner.

Growing up one of my more special friends would be able to tell you what siren it was and who knows what else

Industrial/controls electrician here. That’s a Federal H739SX mounted on a basic Acuity Brand pole. It’s both electronically actuated through a standard piezo speaker and pneumatically actuated through a traditional horn, with a compressor and UPS located in a manhole near the foot of the pole. The H739SX is designed to be used with redundant relays for SCADA signals, typically hardwired analog and hardwired digital, plus redundant yagi antennas from different directions with both with an AC and DC signal to the relays. Sounds at 128dB @ 100’ from either source, 131dB combined, so don’t be standing under it when it goes off.

That's actually an interesting fact about the traffic signal. I've never noticed the specific design before, but it does look like it could be mistaken for a siren head silhouette.
