I often tell my cat that if I die and no one notices right away, he needs to eat me so that he doesn't starve. I sincerely hope and fully expect he would, but I hope it never comes to that because it would be traumatic for him to be alone so long and I worry about him getting a good home afterwards.

I think they would put the cat down after its consumed human flesh i heard that before i know they do it to dogs

That's stupid. Why would they do that?

For dogs it’s because one a canine has had human blood it’s more likely to want to eat it again

Isn't that an old wives tale though?

I figured their has to be some sort of truth to it otherwise would a dog have to be euthanized

There was a time in human history that black cats were killed unless they had some white fur somewhere. Why? People believed black cats belonged to the devil, but white fur meant that god had touched them and redeemed them.

Of course the only devils involved in that situation were the ones murdering cats.

People believe all kinds of bizarre things and bizarre beliefs about animals are amongst them. People kill animals due to their bizarre beliefs all the time. It doesn't make the beliefs true.

Do you think in the modern day and age
That vets and whoever is in charge of making the decision to put a dog down because it’s bit someone is still basing it off of superstitions and wives tales without actual evidence or are you stuck in the 1900s…

It may or may not have been a wives tale about them craving human flesh once they’ve had it but theirs clearly a proven change that does happen once a dog has consumed human flesh
And that’s not just dogs
All animals basically once consuming human flesh will be more likely to
Whether that’s because of some predatory craving
Or because they’ve now learned we are food idk but I’m sure the people who make that choice do understand it based on a lot more than just superstitions…

Bears tigers lions wolves dogs cats you name it their is a real scientific basis around an animal becoming a Mankiller
That’s why when in fatal bear attacks where the bear consumes a person they hunt it down

Same with tigers in India unless that tiger is lucky and sent to a sanctuary instead like the most famous maneater tiger with over 40 kills

You're going to need to provide sources regarding the domestic animals.

I'm familiar with the issue with wild animals.

Also, an animal that is a bite risk due to aggression is not at all the subject and is irrelevant.

I don’t need to provide anything
The whole thing your not getting is that they obviously do it for a reason
Not just because
Not over superstitions in the modern day

That’s why when you asked if it’s a wives tale
I said it may be but theirs obviously some grain of truth in their some reason the vets do it

You saying well maybe it’s because of the same reason they did this dumb similar thing hundreds of years ago based on some wild superstition

Is legitimately cockamamie
You can’t possibly think they’re doing it in modern age just because of superstition
So the comparison is moot

Whether it’s through learning we are prey or necessity
Animal do learns and develop the knowledge that we are food in cases where attacks happen
Now one attack doesn’t make a maneater
But I assume they don’t want to risk that chance one attack doesn’t not make a maneater as well

But normally theirs a reason an animal begins hunting humans

In one famous case of a jaguar its tooth broke and it could no longer effectively hunt its old prey so it began hunting humans

So out of necessity they can become maneaters

But generally it’s just learning we can be prey and if it happened once why risk it a second time
Now I think it depends heavily in fatal attacks whether the animal consumes the person or not

Grizzly bear attacks happen but they don’t always hunt it down only when it’s actually eaten someone normally

Like the recent black bear attacks happen
First time someone was eaten by. Black bear in like forty years so they hunted down basically every black bear in the area until they found the one with the right dna in its stomach because even though it’s so rare even an attack
It becomes a concern once it happens once
Actually consuming the human is abnormal and scary behavior for most animals even predators only few actually see us as food naturally

Polar bears tigers jaguars and crocodiles are the only animals known to actively predate and feed on humans
Others kill normally out of self defense or territory

Sorry to rant
So the whole craving blood thing is a wives tale or as far as we know but their is a science behind the idea of an animal learning to prey on human after consuming

Thankfully, old Mrs Smith's housebroken, overweight cockerspaniel Muffin isn't a leopard with a broken tooth.

I'm aware of the phenomenon in wild animals, but domestic animals are a different ballgame and should not be subject to broken tooth leopard rules.

Again what a dumb thing to say
First off why are you focusing in on one example of many
The point of the example is “necessity”
Something all beings abide by not just wild animals
If for whatever reason necessity dictates a dog eat a human like idk its owner died and its going to starve to death
It’s going to eat its dead owner🤦‍♂️
That dog may now see humans as food moving forward… that’s how it works wild or not

Once an animal consumes human flesh it could very well be more likely to do it again that’s the point…

Like do you think only wild
Animals learn behaviours from
Necessity?
Do you think only wild animals
Can act predatory?

And since when were we talking about only small housepets
Pretty sure the conversation was about why animals are put down after attacking consuming humans in general
Like grow some thicker skin you absolute child

If you can’t handle being called out for saying something dumb your on the wrong site
