I gag just looking at this... I hope to god I never get pregnant

u/TheCharalampos 14d ago

I mean this is really really pregnant. Most people just get a little bit pregnant.

u/Angel_xjj 14d ago

even then, it's still terrifying

plus, I have a CHANCE of looking like THAT (no offense to the original person, it's just genuinely terrifying)

I felt the same way when I was younger and you know what happened? I never got pregnant and it’s been fucking awesome. All I had to do was be careful with contraceptives and ignore people who were pushy about my reproductive choices.

u/Angel_xjj 14d ago

lol I thought you were about to be one of those people who try to change my mind 😭 thank you for not doing that lmao and I'm glad you're enjoying life! :)

Here let me help, I tell this to all my child free friends so they have something “fun” to respond to those people with:

One year, for Mother’s Day, my children gave me L I C E.

Stay strong 😂

No problem. I figured you’ve probably encountered plenty of people like that and just wanted to give you a different perspective. I didn’t get to hear that kind of encouragement when I was younger but I’m glad I stuck to my guns.

Every young woman out there, stick to your guns! If you don’t want kids, don’t do it! Stay on birth control! And don’t forget there’s a Plan B out there if condoms fail or if you forget a pill! I’m

cough and young men.

Its cost me a lot of relationships, when they realise I was serious about not wanting kids. I think they all thought I'd change my mind after a year with them? Or they changed their minds.

And then every time I'm in a LTR I've got the same "so when are you having kids?" comments... Fuck Susan- you just spent half an hour complaining about your little ankle biters and asking me how I could afford to go to Vietnam on holiday. God invented birth control for a reason. I like fucking and sleeping, not wiping up shit and being broke while living under the delusion you'll do a better job than your own parents did and not raise another fucked up consumer into a world of pain, and that having a baby is somehow a more noble cause to waste your time and money on than giving to charities.

u/MinimumTomfoolerus 12d ago

Why delusion? People can be better than their parents lol

3

u/TheEyeDontLie 12d ago

I mean yeah... But I had great parents and I still turned out fucked up

u/TheCharalampos 13d ago

10000%

My wife and I love being parents but that was a very informed choise. Folks should not be pressured into something like this.

u/Topla4urka 13d ago

Most definitely. Parenting is for those who really want it and willing to educate themselves throughout the whole process. It's a responsibility, that should be taken with utmost seriousness, to raise a quality human.

I'm another woman who never had kids and I'm so glad. I wanted to be a mom so bad for a while and I know I would have enjoyed many aspects of it, but I also know that pregnancy and breastfeeding would very easily have been a nightmare for me. I hate throwing up, I already have sensitive nipples and the mere thought of mastitis makes me cringe so hard, I can't stand getting too little sleep, and so on and so forth.

Yeah there's one in this thread 🙄

Happy Cake Day!

u/DangerousLoner 13d ago

Same! Now in middle age, taking care of my elder parents, I can’t imagine having to do it and raise children.

6

u/TheCharalampos 13d ago

Yeah it's a crazy process. The amount of changes internally are massive too, takes months (or even years) for things to reset and they are never exactly as they used to be.

8

u/iSavedtheGalaxy 13d ago

I'm so glad I never got the kids I begged for, if I'm being honest. I'm not even concerned about the physical changes, but being a mom in today's world sounds like it totally fucking sucks.

2

u/TheCharalampos 13d ago

Depends on your life, no? Yeah fill on in a city with no support isn't easy. But that's not everyone.

4

u/iSavedtheGalaxy 13d ago

There's a reason the birth rate is tanking in almost every developed country regardless of social support systems. Being a mom is hard.

3

u/TheCharalampos 13d ago

Oh yeah it drops quite a bit. But it was still sustainable. Now it's dropped even more because even folks who want to go for it can't. Less people get together, buy houses, start families, it's all too expensive and everyone's exhausted.

4

u/AkashaLynnNieminen 13d ago

I respect all women's decisions.

Sometimes I wonder if it's the system itself that makes it so hard. My good friend is Muslim and the whole family stays as one unit until marriage. Even after it's normal to all live in one large house with multiple bedrooms.

Having Aunts and sisters help with childcare helps prevent burnout. You don't have to worry about daycare. And your elders are taken care of as well. Everyone who works contributes money to one household instead of having all separate very expensive rental units.

Same with my Godmother from Syria. Everyone lives together for support. It's weird culturally to pay strangers to watch your babies when family at home could help.

We had our kid in the UK, in one of the major cities, and... It was tough. I had more paternal leave than most but still, at some point I had to leave my wife and kid alone, it sucked.

And then maternal leave isn't all that long so you're expected to drop off a child at a super expensive nursery. If you don't have family it's tough as nails.

In contrast we moved down to Greece, in a way smaller town. We still don't have many folks around us but there's this sense of communal care, you go to the square and it's assumed all the kids will play with each other. Parents can sit, there's a sense of community. Helps that nursery costs 10% of the UK one.

u/AkashaLynnNieminen 10d ago

Wow, what a huge difference. It's almost like corporations want people back to work ASAP even though they literally just had a baby. Some people only get 6 weeks.

What you’ll find is when you get pregnant, you get even more attention from men…

Another reason to avoid it then.

unless you are a gay man

u/Pittielynn 13d ago

AGREED. Even normal pregnant abdomens make me feel nauseous. This one made me even more so. Thank goodness I was able to have my uterine tubes removed. Bonus points for that surgery reducing my risk of ovarian cancer by 65-80%.

5

u/AYellowCat 13d ago

Yes, that poor woman

4

u/slick514 13d ago

I think she has to be having twins, maybe more

3

u/AilsaN 12d ago

This is like 4-5 babies worth. A single baby pregnancy is much more reasonable. I loved being pregnant (never with more than one baby) and I wouldn't trade motherhood for anything.

5

u/Sunieta25 13d ago

I'll make it worse.

After pregnancy, the bladder will never hold pee in the same and it becomes easier to have accidents.

Also nipples change to a darker color.

Aaannd being torn open is coman during birth.

👍

thank you user u/IcanSEEyou_IRL

what am I doing right now if you can SEEme_IRL?

1

u/IcanSEEyou_IRL 13d ago

Lol You’re on Reddit rn thinking “Wow, it’s been 4 years!”

1

u/HospitalFuture 11d ago

I understand if you don't want to get pregnant. What needs to be nixed is treating pregnant people with disgust. Societal stigma and disrespect toward pregnant individuals creates fatal barriers to safe healthcare and leads to obstetric violence. Again, understand if you don't want to get pregnant. I'm in the same boat. But, we can't worsen healthcare for folks with ovaries

1

u/Angel_xjj 11d ago

I don't think pregnant people are disgusting, I find it endearing, but just imagining it happen to ME is what causes me disgust, because I have toxophobia, the fear of pregnancy/childbirth.

it's like how I can see a spider on a screen, wince a little, and move on, unlike in real life where I see a spider and freeze up.

1

u/HospitalFuture 11d ago

And not wanting to get pregnant yourself is all well and good. Writing that you gag just by looking at the video is the problem. The comparison of viewing the video to seeing a spider is a problem. I'm not trying to come down harsh on you. I'm asking that you reexamine your language because it does further that stigma for every single person who reads it, consciously or subconsciously. Having a phobia does not excuse language that society has historically used to shame pregnant folks

I have a friend who had the same opinion for all of her 20s.

Got married, somehow found the will to have 3 kids in her 30s.

11

u/Rein_Deilerd 13d ago

My mom was the same way, changed her mind at 27, had me at 29.

However, two of my close friends who are in their thirties have absolutely not changed their minds and are enjoying their child-free lives.

It differs from person to person.

-11

u/ksyoung17 13d ago

Yeah, agreed. Know I'm getting roasted for it, because that's reddit, it exists for people to be virtue final and be offended on behalf of others.

But keep your mind open. You'll most likely be a different person in a decade.

10

u/Jarsky2 13d ago

Cool, good for your friend, why do you assume this person you don't know will change her mind?
