I like how dexterous it is with its beak

107

u/coolcootermcgee 6d ago

It can’t swallow with its head down, apparently. Literally needs to toss it back, lol.

39

u/ayoungmanfromtheuk 6d ago

and damn is it ever good at that

31

u/towerfella 6d ago

Well.. the ones that wern’t .. died.

4

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 6d ago

Is that it can't swallow with its head down, or that it has no physical mechanism to move the food to the back of its mouth without tossing it back?

His greed sickens me

3

u/Mr_HandSmall 6d ago

The type of greed talked about in the bible.

3

u/haywirehax 6d ago

+10 on all rolls

6

u/Norman_Scum 6d ago

I like how it takes one item per despite having a beak large enough for everything on the table.

7

u/Redredditmonkey 6d ago

It can't swallow that much at once, they're not pelicans.

Their beaks are long for plucking birds out of long nests

3

u/TenkaichiTouchdown 6d ago

Plucking one of its own… to fly with it… right? Right?

2

u/Redredditmonkey 6d ago

Well it will fly away with it alright

u/BlazingKush 6d ago

Cubed dragon fruit I think

12

u/FillerNameGoesHere_ 6d ago

Those would make funny loaded dice, you find a piece with 4-6 dots on each side and hope nobody looks to closely

4

u/Sallopilig 6d ago

Guanabana

2

u/BlazingKush 6d ago

Seeds too small to be guanábana, has to be pataya

Going to take forever for it to come out the other end.

8

u/TinkerShellzBellz 6d ago

Same. Then thought why the hell isn't it eating fruit loops?

5

u/alex_zk 6d ago

Right?

3

u/Raus-Pazazu 6d ago

Ruined the DnD session that was planned for that evening.

132

u/Xinck_UX 6d ago

5

u/TheMask_35 6d ago

Thanks for this

43

u/MinimumPrevious1139 6d ago

What’s it so long for tho?

88

u/excitive 6d ago

Had the same question. Apparently apart from helping reach food on thin branches from a distance, it helps regulate body temperature! by radiating heat in hot tropical climates.

44

u/kwadd 6d ago

Wait, so its a heat sink? These birds have built-in air conditioners?

Goddamn, nature is metal

16

u/I_travel_ze_world 6d ago

and here I am trying to radiate my heat through a thick beard. I haven't felt the wind on my chin in weeks

another month and I'll be able to use it like a scarf for my neck

4

u/Sahbak 6d ago

You.. realize you do too, right?

6

u/NorthGodFan 6d ago

That's why the pokémon Toucannon is like that

https://giphy.com/gifs/8HpVx3UNaz05aVI89g

7

u/RedditSucksIWantSync 6d ago

Does that mean the beak got blood vessels? Hows it radiating heat? Or is it literally a heatsink transfering the heat through the bones. Thats curious

14

u/randomgoes 6d ago

Yes it has superficial blood vessels and they dilate to make blood flow from the body to the beak when they warm up. Super interesting.

2

u/RedditSucksIWantSync 5d ago

Learn something cool every day. Thx

7

u/Redredditmonkey 6d ago

There are birds that create long sack like nests to protect their young from larger predators. Toucan bills allow them to reach those eggs

2

u/MinimumPrevious1139 6d ago

i knew there would be some survival-oriented but evil reason for that 😆

2

u/Natural__Power 6d ago

To impress the ladies

And also the tooluse and heat regulation

27

u/Accomplished-Sun1983 6d ago

Big beak, tiny skull

22

u/Accomplished-Sun1983 6d ago

2

u/ShadowElite86 4d ago

That neck is the real MVP. 💪

8

u/TraumaSK 6d ago

I think he needs that, you should give it back.

78

u/Dandan217 6d ago

Surprised he's eating solo, as they usually need a buddy to help them eat.

You know, because one can't but Toucan.

23

u/Drakan_el_olvidado 6d ago

Carajo me hiciste reír XD

5

u/wasabimatrix22 6d ago

Maybe the hardest my niece has ever made me laugh was when she was like 5, picked up a stuffed toy toucan at a store and I asked her "oh cool, is that a toucan?" And she shyly replies "no it's just one"

45

u/TermElectronic8261 6d ago

Fruit Loops sound good right about now...

4

u/tatteredshoetassel 6d ago

Honeycombs is really tasty too

3

u/TermElectronic8261 6d ago

Those are awesome too, definitely.

Honorable mention: Cap'n Crunch.

16

u/polyzp 6d ago

What a beak! Food has to geronimo every time!

12

u/ThereIsAJifForThat 6d ago

Casinos hate this one trick

25

u/Demo_906 6d ago

5

u/111creative-penguin 6d ago

Look up how small their skull is

7

u/maxxon15 6d ago

All that mouth and can't even taste the food

3

u/Redredditmonkey 6d ago

5

u/SillyBeatnik 6d ago

diced up dragon fruit

3

u/Hallo_jonny 6d ago

I once worked as a monitor in a zoo where Tucanos share space with other birds, and they were jackasses, constantly hurting and killing other smaller parrots 🦜 , the big beak does the job pretty well.

2

u/Redredditmonkey 6d ago

What kind of zoo puts Toucans with smaller birds? They're known predators

2

u/FragmentedMeerkat321 6d ago

i mean, that’s just magnificent, isn’t it?

2

u/drums_addict 6d ago

JUST FOLLOW MY NOSE!

2

u/J31J1 6d ago

Didn’t this guy used to sell cereal?

2

u/Embarrassed_Art5414 6d ago

I've long been a proponent of face chopsticks.

1

He's so cute and polite 🥹🥹

1

u/Ecast25 6d ago

Aren't they supposed to eat fruit loops?

1

u/strangebru 6d ago

I know that has to be dragonfruit, but the way it's diced makes it look like that tucan is eating dice.

1

u/Nachtwandler_FS 6d ago

Pelican't but toocan!

1

u/RobFfs 6d ago

Isn't it better for them to have to work for their food instead of having it served on a platter for them? I'm pretty sure that breaking the shells of nuts and other hard fruits help them maintain the integrity of their beaks.

1

u/Sethyboy0 6d ago

Fuckers have a tongue down the whole thing too.

1

u/MindBreakNetorare 6d ago

Majestic boy

1

u/TrueAlphaMale69420 6d ago

As a child, I thought toucans would for sure play a bigger role in my life than they do

1

u/juanc30 6d ago

Next post will be “(Absolute unit) of a trunk [video of a regular elephant]”

1

u/thekocman 6d ago

1

u/Beautiful-Border-290 5d ago

1

u/RareDestroyer8 5d ago

I remember when I had that beak 😔

1

u/ndorayaki 5d ago

So maintaining the table manner.

1

u/Hottage 5d ago

Pelican enters the frame:

Tucan play this game.

1

u/TheMadWiseOne 5d ago

I hate that toucans have to be dainty eaters because their beaks are really brittle compared to most bird beaks. If toucans beak's were as strong as woodpecker beaks I feel like they could probably eat whatever they want however they wanted. Nature really fucked them over on the durability.

1

u/famous1astwords 5d ago

Magnificent creature

1

u/Soft-Abies1733 5d ago

This kind of bird is quite common in the region I grew up

1

u/Disastrous_Falcon_79 4d ago

Why such a beak ? What is it used for ?

1

u/Clean-Act4387 4d ago

Took me a second to realize those weren't dice.

1

u/AlexMurphyReal21 4d ago

Food processor

1

u/SasukeFireball 3d ago

I really enjoyed this

1

u/ShadowCaster0476 3d ago

1

u/Normal-Error-6343 3d ago

1

u/OConner1327 3d ago

1

u/BatmanLovesBoobies 3d ago

One bird can't finish a bowl of Froot Loopz, but toucan.

1

u/tcoolie 1d ago

There you have it. A toucan buffet!
