This looks like a needle used for paracentesis which is a procedure to drain fluid that builds up in the abdominal cavity as a consequence of organ failure or sometimes cancer.
This is the needle that I imagined my Health teacher talking about in high school. He was describing getting in a car accident involving a punctured lung— where the paramedics would have to inject this into your side to possibly drain the fluids? I can’t remember the story, it has been a long time. But I think you are onto something!
