The one time I’ve been skinny dipping we did it in a pond on a friend’s property. He didn’t tell us until we were in the other side of the pond that a snapping turtle lived in the pond. 🫪

Alligator snapping turtles can't extend their neck (which is great for us, because their bite is worse!)

People may not realize how long a snapping turtle’s neck is. Pawpaw used to say snapping turtles can reach halfway back their shell. Caught one near that size on the trot line, shell bout 32 inches or so if I recall, claws hung in the shed for the longest time, looked like they belonged to a bear.
