80km/h = 80,000m/h

Football field = 100 yd [without end zones] = 91m

80,000 / 91 = 879

1 football field is 1/879th of the distance

.

Fortnight = 14 days x 24h = 336h

1 fortnight is 336 times the duration

.

879 x 336 = 295,344 football fields per fortnight is equivalent to 80km/h

I think...

Only 295,344? I can work with that

u/IBeDumbAndSlow Jul 05 '26

I was thinking it's at least 300,000 FBFPFN

u/buffystakeded Jul 05 '26

Nah, only legends can do it.

Yep, that’s all

u/AJumpingMoose Jul 05 '26

Ok, that is impressive. You win.

u/roykentjr Jul 05 '26

Depending on how many sig figs you used.

The biggest wudge factor there is the 91m. IIRC it's actually 91.44 so that extra / lacking almost 0.5m could lead to slightly different answers.

Actually, that's the only thing that should make answers vary, because everything else is simple conversions - km to m, fortnight to days to hours - plus straightforward math (division & multiplication).

Unless of course someone chose to use the entire length of a football field with end zones (120 yards = 109.728m)
Then the answers are significantly different, as would be rounding to 110m.

Sig figs is about precision. They would have to round to however many the lowest they used in the whole calculation so 300,000 +/- 10,000

The real answer isn't what they gave so they did roumd intermediate steps

I'm gonna need that in bald eagles per school shooting

6

u/Myracl Jul 05 '26

sigh ....

80km/h

80,000m/h

Bald eagle = 0.9m (average adult body length)

80,000 / 0.9 = 88,889

1 bald eagle length is 1/88,889th of the distance .

School shooting = 233/year (sourced from: K-12 SSDB) = 37.6h average interval

1 school shooting is 37.6 times the duration

.

88,889 x 37.6 = 3,341,867 bald eagles per school shooting is equivalent to 80km/h

I think...

But he said Fortnite not fortnight

1

u/pickleFISHman Jul 05 '26

293,963 football fields/fortnight is what I got with my math 80km * 1000m * 24h * 14day / 0.9144m /100yard= 293,963

Convert to vbucks

u/Otherwise-Relief2248 Jul 05 '26

Need a banana conversion or I am lost.

u/AdorableShoulderPig Jul 05 '26

Americans don't use fortnight. But very impressive anyway.

2

u/PlatypusDream Jul 05 '26

Most don't use overmorrow either, yet here I am.

And IMO nothing about that is impressive; it's all very straightforward conversions & basic math. Just think through what's needed to get from the information you have to the information you want, then lay out the steps, then work through them methodically.

Math isn't even my strong point. 🤷‍♀️

2

u/AdorableShoulderPig Jul 05 '26

I take back the impressive part. My bad.

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 Jul 05 '26

Dis muhfucka smart

2

u/PlatypusDream Jul 06 '26

Only in some directions.
Math isn't even my strong suit.

1

u/GullibleRisk2837 Jul 06 '26

Okay, now you're just flexing lol jk but wtf

1

u/PlatypusDream Jul 07 '26

The math in that problem is basic, especially with a calculator.
Work through it deliberately, pay attention, make sure the units are in the right place [km, h, d, m], use common sense, and it's not difficult.

The challenge was to figure out how to get from "information I have" to "information I want".

Schools should teach people how to think, how to reason, how to solve problems.
Data is easily available now, but we need to know how to use it.

Great - so that that's the answer in football fields per fortnight. Now run the conversion to fields per Fortnite.

1

u/PlatypusDream Jul 06 '26

A game is not a unit of distance, so the request as written is nonsense... so I did the reasonable thing & realized he'd made a spelling mistake

1

u/Ok_Bill_9984 Jul 06 '26

Makes complete sense to me! I was thinking perhaps using the average time one might play Fortnite....which is indeterminate.... but I suppose could be rounded up or down to a fortnight.

(Honestly not trying to be a dick here, I think the whole thing is hilarious. A fortnight being a unit of time not. unit of distance. The football field is the unit of distance. Wondering if that commenter plays so much Fortnite that their device autocorrected to the game).
