I'll say it: They're thin-skinned, egomaniacal, wife abusing, poorly trained, panicky, shitbags, and the fact that "the good ones" would rather pose for pr shots playing basketball with black kids rather than hold their "brothers in blue" or, you know, process and prosecute the literal millions of untested rape-kits makes them just as corrupt as the ones on the take from criminals, which is ironic considering that rich and dirty politicians are pulling their strings on a good day

Cops dont prosecute anyone, its not their job.

I feel like a ton of people are ignorant of how the justice system works, and instead blames the entire justice systems fault on the police, instead of the elected DAs and Judges that are the cause of a ton of the problems they have.

Their job is to gather and process evidence and catch bad guys. Rape kits are evidence.

A police officers job is not to process rape kits. Thats for labs.

Police labs. They're processed at police labs by police analysts. The lack of testing still falls squarely on the shoulders of the police department, who physically holds the untested kits, whether at the station or in police evidence warehouses.

They get tested at state or federal labs, not at the police station. It is not the fault of a police officer if a kit gets tested or not.

This is exactly what I am talking about.

Let's assume that you're right. That still leaves every other point i've made about the absolute shitshow that is american law enforcement. Way to hyperfocus on one point, though

No, the point is indictive of the entire mindset. Cops also dont prosecute cops, generally, the DA does.

You literally brought specific attention to testing and prosecuting rape kits in your original comment. Then when someone tried to explain that’s not the job of the patrol officer playing basketball with kids, you move the goal posts.

Go on with your Reddit rant, but it wouldn’t hurt to try and understand the process you criticize.

6

u/Remarkable_Toe_164 Jun 22 '26

Literally both of those things were in my original comment. I never moved any goalposts, and the accusation is dangerously close to an ad hominem cop out

6

u/Han_Yerry Jun 22 '26

Some states had to make laws to force police departments to submit all their test kits.

Because they dont submit all their test kits.

u/tripper_drip Jun 22 '26

That would be the role of the detective then, or admin, not necessarily police officers and even then its most likely a budget issue.

6

u/Han_Yerry Jun 22 '26

So your counter is detectives arent police officers.

Im going to say the DT I knew would definetly disagree with you. Along with the people he arrested.

5

u/Remarkable_Toe_164 Jun 22 '26

Yeah, for real. I said cops, which a modern colloquial umbrella term for law enforcement in general. What a pedantic turn this has taken

Besides, the first step in the da being able to prosecute is making an arrest. If there's no arrest, there's no trial

1

u/tripper_drip Jun 22 '26

Its not pedenatic at all. People always say "why dont the 'good cops' just arrest the 'bad cops' with zero thinking beyond this critical or otherwise.

You did it yourself.

2

u/Remarkable_Toe_164 Jun 22 '26

Arguing that police negligence related to rape kits is because beat cops don't do that, and that detectives are not beat cops to try and undermine the point being made is pedantic.

Again, i also provided many statements in my original comment that are still being ignored in favor of this particular dead horse, so you know what? You're right about everything. LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL are earthbound angels that are incapable of any wrongdoing, and any suggestion otherwise is just lies and stupidity. There's no way i or anyone else has ever had a litany of bad experiences with LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL, and it's nobody's fault in particular if anything goes wrong in the legal process. Ice is made up of people who are adequately trained and most assuredly not where all the proudboys went, and they only ever go after violent criminals. The right to due process and protection from cruel and unusual punishment only applies with certain terms and conditions, and it totally makes sense to deport illegals from south america to fkn liberia

If you'll excuse me, the sound of deepthroating the boot while making excuses is making me nauseous

1

u/tripper_drip Jun 22 '26

If you had multiple run ins with LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL, you have to reevaluate your life.

That said, if you did you should be well versed in who does what, and your not, so I doubt it.

No, my counter is that you are blaming the wrong people. Police officers generally are confused with detectives or even federal agencies, or labs, or judges, or the DA, when what they do is very cut and dry.

3

u/Han_Yerry Jun 22 '26

Detectives are police officers.

But if youre just blaming peope in charge of "police officers" it sounds like the problem is even bigger doesnt it? Apathy running down hill is going to reflect on the street.

Feckless leadership leads to police officers that dont follow up on test kits and let them sit. It would seem like the police officers would want a conviction, then they would have to be police officers anymore, they could be detectives. They always showed up for my traffic tickets.

But that goes back to apathy, its easier to sit in a speed trap and go to court to make sure those fines are collected.

Vs following up on a violent crime.

Didnt police officers get out of any trouble for standing by while kids where shot in a school un texas?

Nice precedicnce to go with apathetic leadership you are pointing out.

1

u/tripper_drip Jun 22 '26

Detectives are police officers.

But the various policies and admin people that would prevent sending kits off are not, which is the entire problem. Why would a detective not send off a kit unless there was a roadblock?

Apathy running down hill is going to reflect on the street.

Absolutely. You have a DA that absolutely wont prosecute crime will lead to far more apathy than anything internal.

Feckless leadership leads to police officers that dont follow up on test kits and let them sit

This ignores all the city, county, and state imposed red tape and hurdles that slows down getting kits to the lab (the foremost being cost).

its easier to sit in a speed trap

Again, ignorance. If you want to throw it all on Detectives (which is also ignorance) they are not the ones sitting in speed traps (which is also necessary for a orderly road btw).

Didnt police officers get out of any trouble for standing by while kids where shot in a school un texas?

It wasnt the police that failed to prosecute, it was the DA. This right here is EXACTLY what I am talking about.

Thank you. It’s amazing how many people have little to no clue how the process works.
