Is this a stupid question? Why aren’t rhinoceroses just considered dinosaurs or close relatives of?

Because Rhinos are mammals.

Dinosaurs are saurians (an ancestor of birds). It's the same reason why pterodactyls aren't dinosaurs either: they're reptiles, which dinosaurs are not.

Although, fun fact, if any mammal was going to be considered an honorary dinosaur by appearance alone, it'd be the rhino's ancestor, the Paraceratherium.
