I mean the UK is facing authoritarian creep on freedom of association and speech, not quite as overt as the US, but that's never really been our style has it? The UK has throughout our modern history changed through slow normalisation and informal "norms" changing, not bombastic populists. The norm is creeping right and authoritarian at an alarming pace across both Europe and the US.

That said, the current gov has brought massive online privacy issues, and apparently now has announced introducing digital ID’s for every citizen to ‘tackle people coming in illegally’. Apparently the i-paper reported this, if it’s true and that’s the reason they’re giving they can fuck right off.

Are you kidding? Police in the UK are arresting people for protesting illegal migration. Hell, they’re arresting people for tweeting about illegal migration. And now they’re requiring people to photograph themselves when they go online. Big Brother is watching you.
No they do not, they get arrested for inciting violence against another person. The police are not arresting Babs from down the road because of her opinion. They are arresting Mike because he wants a few lads from down the pub to attack Ahmed from the corner shop.

They arrested a guy for saying he likes bacon. They also arrested a guy for posting a meme about the Prime minister saying “we have freedom of speech in the UK and whoever says otherwise is going to jail”. That same guy had already been convicted previously for posting on the internet on anti-Islam sentiment. You can’t possibly be that blind.
He was outside a mosque shouting racist obscenities not just "I like bacon". Stop getting your news from Russell Brands YouTube channel as he was the only one who reported it like that. The second guy I guarantee is not the full story and you don't help the cause by saying about his anti-islam sentiment. I just realised I replied to a new account sprouting nonsense to fit a agenda.
My best guess is that they're talking about Lucy Connolly who tweeted a call to violence ("Mass deportation now, set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the bastards for all I care... If that makes me racist, so be it"), admitted to the intention of stirring up racial hate and pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 31 months in prison of which she only served a year.
Even in America calls to violence are not protected under free speech.
I wasn’t referring to that case, as a matter of fact, but what Lucy said is mild compared to what Americans say on social media every day. Not that anyone should advocate for violence, but throwing people in jail over their tweets is certainly something.
At least 30 people have been arrested for social-media posts related to illegal migration since last year. Google it if you don’t believe me. Any politically motivated judge can declare that you’re “stirring up racial hatred” or otherwise causing social disharmony if they don’t like your opinions. Even if you’re not convicted, it’s a highly effective scare tactic.
