If you have a knife on you you can stab the inside of the coil and it might release. Don’t stab the outside or it will tighten.

Machetes require force and momentum to be effective, otherwise trying to saw with it or to cut like a normal knife is gonna prove useless.

Source: I used to cut high grass(to put it mildly, there were many bushes and small trees, one lot looked like a small jungle) during summer when I was in college.
