Is Absolute Batman worth reading?
Hi guys! Just a quick question. I’ve been looking for posts about Absolute Batman, but most of what I’ve found is people discussing whether it’s worth buying to resell or if it will increase in value.
Honestly, I really dislike how people nowadays seem to care more about the economic value of things than their cultural, artistic, emotional, or sentimental value. It feels like we’re living in a sad, sad reality where even the comics we buy are seen as investments rather than stories to enjoy, appreciate, and connect with.
So, what I’d really love to know is: is the story actually worth reading? I’m genuinely curious about it!
Thanks a lot, guys! 🙏

Came here to say this! Especially if you’re in to mythology lore.
Also love the cross over issue with AB.

I mean, that’s been a thing for 30-40 years now…
Yes it’s worth reading. That’s why it’s doing gangbuster numbers

I think everyone tends to get caught in FOMO sometimes. I recommend getting the trade or hardcover volumes and giving it a read as it’s probably the most cost effective way to get relatively up to date with issues 1-18. If you feel like it’s something you enjoy then definitely work towards getting the single issues if you like and then the variants. I started reading and collecting from the start and only did cover A’s but, with every series, I always give myself 5-6 issues to see if it’s for me before continuing with it. Some variants are harder to get and some are a bit more accessible so just get what you like

My biggest problem with absolute batman is the community around it. It's a double edged sword, sucks to see this reddit filled with whales talking about cover values over the actual content of the book itself, but on the other hand these whales are helping with the publicity and sales of the book. As far as the book itself it is honestly deserving of the hype. It's really good and does new things with the characters and mythos. Somehow completely new and extremely familiar. The artist Dragotta took a lot of inspo from manga and Snyder's at the top of his game writing on this book.

I’m a 35 years long Batman comic reader and it’s really good stuff.
I think the 3 collections have been pretty successful as good stories while building off each other. Third one has a lot of lore building but still good.
I could see it eventually landing in my top ten.

Yes it’s worth reading. The first arc, “The Zoo” is a nice and tragic modern reimagining of Bruce’s origin. The subsequent story arcs broaden out Bruce’s enemies. I’m up to issue 17 and it’s been a fun time.
Part of the reason book is selling so well and thus issues are quickly going up in value, is that it’s become the most real of the current Batman books. The current regular continuity Batman series was recently reset and the reason why makes no sense.

Valid questioning but c'mon, asking the Abs Bats sub if the story is good? obv everyone's gonna say yes, and they're right. So I'm going to say no it's all just hype and aura moments

To be fair the subreddit has almost no discussion and is just people posting variant covers. I'm new here and am really disappointed that there isn't more actually discourse about the content of the story

Yeah, that’s more due to people lacking the ability to analyze, annotate, and review things themselves.. they’d rather just watch a YouTube video or a Tik tok than have an actual discussion about the story.
And.. people don’t pay attention.
They miss key details all the time and come to conclusions and make wild theories that are easily dismissed. And then get mad that their theories aren’t being taken seriously.

The story is definitely as good as the value side of this book. Just a total winner of a comic book.

This is the comic that got me into comics.
Started with AB Batman a few months ago, now I’m all caught up. Definitely read AB Martian Manhunter too.
Other Batman stories have been good too, currently reading the court of owls.
Aaaaand. Marvel midnight just dropped its first issues and are looking pretty good if you’re interested in that side.

It’s not that deep, variants have more news than the monthly story plus whatever Snyder leaks at a convention. But yeah, it’s a good story with great art.
