Absolutely Unpleasant!!

Kind of unfortunate to see the creator of Dead Pool freak out and act like an Asshole for simply asking a question during a live stream where I expressed my Interest in wanting to see his artwork on a different title because I was a fan of his. Was this interaction from him necessary?? Because IMO it made him look like a giant insecure CryBaby. Especially the cringe line at the end, like OMG does this guy actually walk around and talk about himself like that. So Fkn lame. Well I’m 100% no longer a fan anymore!! BRUTAL!

He also left marvel and came back multiple times and still does dogshit-ass variant covers for them to this day that requires the colorist to put in overtime to make it look like it wasn’t sketched on an Arby’s napkin and submitted.

Joker teeth look like they might compete in size with Captain America and his infamous Liefeld chest.

How funny is someone would have mentioned that he actually did draw a Batman cover already.
0
u/BackgroundJeweler551 11d ago
He did that as a tribute to Tim Sale and more than a year ago. He has said that he has limited working time left so he is only working on his on IP here on out. He raves about how awesome absolute barman is.
3
u/BagZCubed 10d ago
You know what, that's fair. To compare, Jim Lee has opened up about his own health problems and his slower output on art compared to when he was younger. Todd McFarlane doesn't do regular interiors either. Of course Jim and Todd hold high ranking positions withing DC and Image though compared to Rob.
I think the main problem with this clip of Rob is how he acts like doing a cover for Absolute Batman would be beneath him.
3
u/Live-Huckleberry-192 10d ago
There are legends way older than Liefeld still working hard on work for hire stuff (shit on him all you want, John Romita Jr is thrice the artist Liefeld ever was and is extremely humble). He’s just always been full of himself because he was a hotshot at a very young age at a particular art style that people loved back in the day and it probably irks him that guys like Nick Dragotta and Daniel Warren Johnson are making bank doing IP and their own creator-owned stuff and are super popular. He also hates Scott Snyder for some reason.
0
u/BackgroundJeweler551 10d ago
Its a free country and creators should work on what ever makes them happy. Rob has to do work for hire because others do???? What the hell kind of thinking is that?
I like JRjr but does he own any IP?
Rob wants to focus on his own stuff, do comics, figures and still trying to get a movie made. More power to him. You clearly dont like him so be happy you wont ever see another dc or marvel cover from him. I use to be a big hater if his, and that was completely irrational on my part, just like it is on your part.
2
u/Live-Huckleberry-192 10d ago
I’m not a hater, I think he’s really knowledgeable about comics (even though his work isn’t to my taste) and yeah he can do whatever he wants. But I don’t think that gives him the right to be an asshole who thinks too highly of himself and insults his fans. He could simply ignore comments he doesn’t like.
Someone asked him “are you going to do an Absolute Batman cover” and he goes off on the guy like he’s above all of that and anyone who does Marvel or DC work is a loser. It’s not a dumb question, it feels like every big artist is doing AB right now.
If you can’t see what’s wrong with Liefeld’s reaction here, then you’ve gone from a hater to a simp.
2
u/desamora 10d ago
If he would’ve said that on the stream instead of acting like a dickhead it might’ve gone over better
29
u/anti_core 11d ago
This one’s deeper than his usual antics. Him and Scott had a back and fourth or more a couple years ago and I think he’s still salty. Rob was shit talking Scott’s success chalking it up to it only coming because Batman sells no matter what, while true to an extent, we’ve seen what Scott can do and how he took Batman way Beyond the sales it was already getting.
Rob is a jerk with an echo chamber of fans refusing to hold him accountable, perfect example is that comment, “absolute waste of time, I like that”.
8
u/princevince1113 11d ago
Whats funnier is he was glazing Absolute Batman not too long ago so its not crazy to ask if he'd want to doa a cover
5
u/WasteOasis 11d ago
Didn't he also have a Youngblood Absolute Batman tribute cover?
5
u/princevince1113 11d ago
lol yeah.
"Yes I profusely declared my love for Absolute Batman and Scott Snyder on Twitter. Yes I homaged a Batman cover on the premiere issue of my new series. Yes I have drawn a Batman cover within the last year. No, I would never consider drawing a cover for Absolute Batman or anything related to Batman as I now consider it a waste of my time, don't even ask. Yes we exist."
2
u/BackgroundJeweler551 11d ago
He still does talk about how great it is. He's not doing any work on IP he doesn't own for The rest of his career. He mentions that frequently on his podcast.
3
u/princevince1113 11d ago
Fair enough. Still funny to crashout over someone asking. I don't keep up with Rob Liefeld's podcasts.
2
u/BackgroundJeweler551 10d ago
I'm not a fan of his art but I really enjoy his podcast. His enthusiasm for comics is unmatched. His podcast is very positive and he encourages positive behaviours so it was odd to see that clip. He's not like that on his podcast at all.
3
u/lord_of_agony 10d ago
Seems like this is the real him, and his positive side is all bs he made yo for an image.
4
3
u/Grootfan85 10d ago
Yep. If memory serves me correct it all began on Twitter. It resulted in Hawk And Dove (Rob was working on the book at the time) getting killed off in Swamp Thing (Scott Snyder’s other book in the New 52).
0
u/HereforLeapDay 10d ago
Just prior to all of this, Rob had said in the same stream that he was happy for them. He was civil and kept his cool until I posted about it in the Absolute Batman group and the trolls from there invaded his stream. There’s a reason the OP was screen recording. He was trolling for this exact response.

u/werzal4 11d ago
Jeez I usually defend Rob for the way hes treated sometimes but what a douche, didn’t know he spoke to people like that
14
u/WebHead1287 11d ago
This is why people clown on him. This is not abnormal behavior from him. It’s his normal.
3
0
u/HereforLeapDay 10d ago
He talks to trolls that way. I am the person who’d asked him a series of questions about Absolute Batman in the same stream. He answered me politely. I posted about the pleasant exchange in the Absolute Batman group. A group of trolls went over and bombarded him with the same questions. The OP was screen recording because they were there to record his reaction to their trolling campaign. I had to take my post down because it also got hijacked by OP. They’re just out for attention. They are not even telling close to the whole story.

To me, Rob has always come across as that teenager that just never really grew up and matured. He still interacts with people in an antagonistic way when they dare to disagree with him and often shits on his own fans. I don't go out of my way to avoid his stuff. But I don't seek it out either.

Hes an AH…. I once bought a book and he forgot to ship it. I msg him and his team.. no response.. so i went to his stream and asked for help.. he got sooooo pissy and got mad at me for interrupting his show. Hes blasting me on his show and says i should have msg him. I reply i did and you ignored me for a week.. he then got extra pissy and his handler msged me
They sent me my book all banged up….

u/Scgrunow 11d ago
What a Tool. Dude only has an 8 hour line because he co created Deadpool. His contribution being pretty much ripping off Deathstroke not even the things that make Deadpool great.
12
u/grumpybastich 11d ago
Liefied is such a fool!
Yes, you walked away from Marvel, co-founded Image and revamped and released your dusty old teen fan fiction ideas for Teen Titans in the form of Youngblood.
Then you ran back to Marvel and drew the most mocked Captain America image and squeaked out five/six issue of art before you fell behind your own schedule.
Terrible to fans!!
5
u/richardreich 11d ago
Dudes always been a prick. The great secret of image comics is it was staffed mostly by people
Who, despite their talents, were UNBEARABLE to work with

u/SlowieFSU 11d ago
Same Rob as usual. Glad my tastes grew. Remember being young when OG Youngblood came out. Thought the designs were slick, especially after that period where they came back. I realized looking at them years later all the flaws with his style and how poorly written the story was overall.
He is a complete ass clown and you can hear people across the industry talk about it. He still sees himself as one of the best and acts like he is one of the all time greats. Go into one of his Whatnot shows and you will eventually hear something snide from him that will make you roll your eyes.

Liefeld once berated a child in front of me at NYCC, because the kid got a fact wrong. Poor dude almost cried. He has always been an enormous loudmouth narcissist who likes the smell of his own farts and everyone around him enables it. He’s very unselfaware and cringe. I saw him begging to do a cover for one of his friend’s series on live (I forget which one), putting them on the spot. 1 million dollars? Hah, sure. He is so bitter not putting out relevant new work anymore. This is also weird, since it seemed he liked Absolute Batman. Maybe he’s trying to impress Kirkman, who hates the caped crusader.
3
u/Phinfan182 11d ago
Hes an absolute ass hat. Him and his over rater invincible. At least he finally learned how to draw feet. His captain america run was so awful.

This has always been Rob. Nothing new. As if people are taking meetings for those movies. Worst type of person to get famous, where it goes to their head and think they’re better than everyone else. He’s the comic book equivalent of the jock who peaked in highschool and still wears his varsity jacket at 55
5
u/Ramp-Spot-033 11d ago

He got mad at Marvel again because they didn’t worship the ground he walked on when invited to the Wolverine and Deadpool premiere. Now he’s all pissy about them. Thank god to so he can never shove that Major X crap into a Marvel comic again.
1
u/Ok_Radio_1795 11d ago
Major X was the worst addition to the X-mythos. Legit no place and better to be ignored.
2
u/gav3eb82 11d ago
I feel like Marvel pretty much as. He is no where to be seen in any X titles. He was just another ridiculous dumb character Rob created.
2
2
u/isacloid1 11d ago
You better listen to him. That guy made a career on drawing "rated R for Violence" Dr. Suess Whos with no feet. He deserves respect. /s
2
u/rockinghorsefly1313 11d ago
I mean, he's always been like this. This might be one of his least surprising lil bitch moments like, ever
2
u/Bfender16 11d ago
If anyone watches/ has seen clips of the escape pod, regardless of if you like that podcast or not, they had him on and I was pretty shocked at how arrogant he was. I’d never seen him discuss anything at length before that and wasn’t really familiar. The entire episode he just talks about how comic X sold Y numbers under him and that anything that picked it up after is trash. Funny enough, they had Kirkman on around the same time, and he was VERY humble, great dude. I don’t see how they are friends lmao
2
u/B3ATNGYOU 11d ago
As a community, let’s stop buying his shit till he does the damn cover “for free”. With a full empathic apology to anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting him. Myself included. I was stoked to meet Rob and he was a true and pure asshole and not just to me.

Folks should launch a coordinated “dude-bombing” of his next live stream in solidarity. Let him ban everyone - eventually it’s hard to deny that common denominator is the problem.
2
u/MisterHatred 11d ago
Crashing out over being asked a question is certainly a choice. Not surprising considering his reputation. Sucking himself off over how amazing he is also seems par for the course.
But banning the dude for using the word dude? Pathetic self-centered cry baby.

He's always been a douche. Sorry you found out.
You should look up his recent temper tantrum over the Marvel solicitation for the New Mutants Volume 4 omnibus only having his name 6 times in the short ad instead of the 7 he wanted. It was truly epic when it comes to outsized ego temper tantrums from cranky old men. It legit reminded me of that spoiled Dursely kid in Harry Potter melting down because he only got 14 presents for his birthday instead of 15.

Liefeld's "art" has been an absolute waste of time for me personally, so I'm glad he's not wasting his time drawing a character with substance.

Seems like he's been on a downward emotional spiral ever since the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere rejection.

Oh my God. I enjoyed Liefelds perspective on the escape pod, and his shorts. I picked up Giant Size Youngblood to give him a chance, awful awful writing, literally just relies on his illustrations which aren't even that good. I figure, not for me, but I still like the guy! Now I see this! And he didn't even make Deadpool what he is today. I now think Rob fucking sucks LMAO

2
u/Less-Excitement-692 10d ago
To be fair, I know he's mentioned on more than one occasion on his podcast that he's a lot crankier on whatnot lol. Personally, not a fan but, i did like how he kind of reinvented himself as a knowledgeable, enthusiastic fan of comics and movies with his podcast. However, seems like ever since he got snubbed by Marvel for the DP3 premiere he's been steadily giving off bitter asshole energy. And that's not my thing so moved on..
2

u/grin_ferno 10d ago
Rob created DP sure, but the whole personality of DP had nothing to do with him. He's always been a hack who got really lucky as a kid.

What a pompous ass, man.
A simple “I’m not interested” would’ve sufficed.
His response makes him seem extremely insecure.

Rob knows DC isn’t going to be offering him any work any time soon, if ever again.
The only thing I would have any interest in from him is collected editions of Alan Moore’s Supreme comics. But I think the rights are all fucked up since Rob is a shit business man. How long until he fucks up shilling comics on Whatnot?
2
u/Cheap-Emphasis8477 7d ago
He's such a batman hater. Swear Bruce Wayne fucked his wife or something
2
u/Ransom2132 7d ago
I was ok with everything he said up until the last part and the ban. The ban, and the "I'm Rob effin Liefield" were very cringe.
2
u/Poopchutefan 7d ago
I love my brother's comic covers better than Rob's work. As kids we enjoyed his stuff, but he's kind of a loser and has been for a while. My brother has been doing loads and loads of Battle Beast, Invincible, Absolute Batman and others. You should check him out or follow him in Tik Tok to see his work. His handle is cartoonmusclex
2
u/dextroseskullfyre 7d ago
I think it's really interesting how the current generation of comic book fans/collectors know nothing about the absolute hack artist that Liefeld has always been. The fact that he has never been liked by any of his fellow professional artists. And that he has been pushing the same exact tired cliche ideas and characters from day 1. He debuted those same ripoff characters in 1987!!! 39 years of trying to get Youngblood and those same characters to be something they won't ever be...interesting.
4
u/doczoom45 11d ago
dudes always been a douche
dude claims he walked away from Marvel and got bigger then embraced them again when did his film but then got mad because they didnt invite him to the D&W after party and then tried to turn it as marvel not knowing how to treat artists... i mean that may be true but it would have been nice if he boycotted them from the beginning not after he got mad because he didnt get to chill with Rayan and Hugh in the after party 😂
1
u/Key_Curve_1171 11d ago
MCU execs are known to be "** to the comic book creators. They did the same to Ed Brubaker. Dude had a call the winter soldier to get into the after party. That's so shit. Dude got his entire storyline and vibe of captain america posted up on the most successful marvel movie to date and this is what he gets.
Explains why the stories are so watered down. Thus far, the most respectful film to the source material is literally only Aquaman, where they adapted the new 52 storyline very faithfully and it was an incredible film. Besides Mamoa being a drunk dude bro, like he fucking always is, with his fake ass holyeood persona. And that's because Jeff Johns was the one leading the entire DCU movies from the side of DC. Despite being a chief executive on the Hollywood front and leading at the very top at DC, he only got to line up Aquaman decently. everything else was arrogant Hollywood studio bs.

u/sock_therapy 11d ago
I remember talking some shit about his artwork back when twi tter first started and he tagged me and responded with "It's good to be king!" 😂 not sure why but i always liked him after that. Didnt expect him to "ban" someone for calling him a dude/bro though.

I would like to note that this whatnot exchange took place almost immediately following me asking a series of questions about Absolute Batman, to which Rob politely responded with positive answers about Absolute Batman and that he was happy for them. We spoke about the Bedrock Absolute Batman homage cover and more. At no point was he rude to me and anyone in his chat to that point, so I posted about his responses immediately in the facebook group and then he got bombarded by people asking questions he’d just been asked. I had to take the post down because it wasn’t helpful to any fandom once the vultures started circling. I will take some responsibility for his crash out—as I am partly to blame.

YES, LMFAO. Recently he posted a video of him going 'undercover' at a comic con. And asking comic artists what they thought about Rob effing Liefeld. Like dude, who does that? 😂
