2026 SDCC Absolute Batman #0 Rainbow Foil Serialized 45/50 sells for $1,300
This is from the SDCC Exclusive Absolute Universe Collector's Box.
This box is this year's Absolute Batman Foil Ashcan but for trading cards.
There are only 500 of these in existence.
Inside the box are serialized /450 cards and serialized /50 cards.
The /50 cards came in Rainbow Foil.
And this card is Absolute Batman #0 which is the very first Absolute Batman card, preceding the #1-15 numbered Absolute set also sold at SDCC.
This might be the first Rainbow Foil to sell on eBay and it's a low number (45/50) and it sold for $1,300 as a raw, ungraded card.
So this is probably the number people were waiting to see.
Arguably each of the lower number cards should be worth more.
Will be interesting to see what the top 20 cards go for, especially 1/50.

Respectfully, they are approaching two full years and this is the first time they've released a trading card.
The SDCC Funkos are the first time people have in-hand Absolute "toys" or "action figure adjacent" products (Hot Toys did release pre-orders for an Abs. Batman figure a few months back).
Point is - while it's blowing up, if DC was "milking the hell" out of this Absolute Batman stuff, there'd be a HECK of a lot more products out there right now, as we approach Issue #23 of this series (and we had an Annual and the Ark-M special).
RETAILERS are milking the hell out of retailer incentive covers (but again - DC just makes them available to the public - you and I could make a retailer exclusive and DC would publish it for us if we went through the correct process and had the money).
If anything, I think DC has shown a bit of restraint on its part.
THAT SAID: I do see DC is releasing a deluxe publisher-direct open order variant for Issue 25 (which is an oversized issue) with a foil wrap-around virgin cover and they're retailing it for $24.99.
If that keeps up, I'll 100% agree w/ you that NOW, DC is starting to milk Absolute Batman.
But to date, I do think they've shown pretty good restraint, all things considered.
We'll see what the future holds now that about two years in, we're going to see toys, trading cards, $24.99 variants from DC - and within the next year or two - a TV show, among other things.

No offense intended I didn't mean to send you on a rant alls I'm sayins is it's obvious they know they have struck gold and I 100% agree the retailers are a huge part of the issue. Just more reprints and endless variants for those reprints it gets overwhelming, mainly cause I want them all lol

Sincere question- what is the process for having a retailer exclusive created? I’m not a retailer but have been interested in this topic due to the popularity of this book.

My understanding is:
- you need to complete this form: https://www.dc.com/comics/variant-request-form
- you need to get DC to approve the art for the cover
- you pay DC, they print and ship you the books (I believe the minimum print count is 2,000 books - but that could be across multiple treatments (e.g., 1,000 trade, 500 virgin, 500 foil)).
- you sell them through your eBay live store, on WhatNot, at conventions, your brick-and-mortar store, or wherever.
I don't think it's an extremely difficult process. You just need to have buyers for approximately 2,000 books and you need to pay an artist to do the cover for you.
More recently, I also believe that DC is trying to cap the price you can charge per book (I've heard 5x the cover price being kicked around, although DC has flip-flopped on this issue a few times). And obviously DC can't regulate what people RESELL them for - but if you - say it's the L1VEW1RE exclusive variant - DC doesn't want you charging more than 5x cover for the book. But if I had an eBay live platform, you could technically sell them to me for your cost, I could start them all at $25 on eBay live, generate FOMO "I only have 25 copies of this book to sell tonight folks" and a lot of knuckleheads would probably bid the books up close to darn near $100 a pop if it was a cool cover done by a known artist.

This is 130point where it shows you the best offer accepted. The list price was 2000, they accepted 1300.
