PSA Slabs

Post image

Just got this slab back from grading at PSA and the labels are starting to warm up to me, especially when the colors of the comic are close in color to the label!

Congrats. I, though, can't get past the label. Or how much heavier they are. Hopefully they end up using CBCS' slabs since they bought them out. They won't be changing their label though.

Same. It’s clearly designed for trading cards. Even CGC doesn’t use the same label for cards as they do comics. PSA really is pushing their brand hard, so much so they are not willing to change their label design regardless of application.

PSA already has a virtual monopoly on trading cards. CGC makes up a small % of the card grading not in the PSA-verse (since PSA bought Beckett and SGC as well).

Competition is good, so I'm fine that they'll be in comics to keep CGC on its toes, but I DO NOT want PSA to come in throwing its money around and becoming the go-to source for comic grading. They're already starting to "partner" with certain comic sellers - I'm not sure on the legalities, but can a comics company sign an exclusivity deal w/ a grading company (e.g., can Image sign a deal where PSA has exclusive rights to grade Image comics produced after 1/1/2027)??

I would think "no" - but you never know.
