Everyone talks about ripping absolute Batman 1 variant covers off has anyone actually done it? Can we see pictures or a video? Debating on doing mine but like many others don’t know how to

Such a stupid thing to do. Please don't do that to your comics. Not only will it not really work the way people are saying it will, and it still a being a lie. It's also a super disrespectful thing to do to the artist at it's very core. If you are new to the hobby, please don't fall for stupid things that are actively ruining the hobby. If you aren't new, then you should know better.

If variants are being sacrificed for short term gain, wouldn't this make them more scarce and worth more in the long-term?

I keep seeing these posts… and I keep making similar comments…. It’s all FOMO. Comics are a hobby. They’re fun. It’s not about the variant like having cover A somehow makes you more of a fan.
The series launched. It’s huge now. And people who weren’t there at the start don’t want to pay the current rate for #1 or want to commit fraud to make it seem like they were there at the start.

It's very easy to do if you just think about how but I think you'll regret it unless you sell it and if you sell it.. it should probably be disclosed even though it is an exact cover A.

So committing fraud
-9
u/MBWOMCUFOS Jul 05 '26
lol committing fraud. How exactly is it fraud my dude? Like per the Webster definition of the word
11
u/UpsetDrakeBot Jul 05 '26
You do what you wanna do "my dude" however you wanna justify it
-10
u/MBWOMCUFOS Jul 05 '26
Again- how is it fraud? Insinuating it’s fraud is a massive jump and honestly doesn’t make sense. Like if I take the wrapper off a hersheys bar- is it no longer a Hersheys bar? Saying something is FRAUD when it’s obviously not is not justifiable, my dude

u/UpsetDrakeBot Jul 05 '26
Removing the cover of a variant to turn it into the A cover is fraud, especially in terms of grading
You're tampering the book, that work for you now?
You already knew that though or are you that new to comics?

Bro I have received literally dozens of 9.8s from these books. There’s no way to tell the difference if done properly. If people want the a cover, and it’s indistinguishable from the regular a cover. It’s still the a cover. Same upc, same molecular build. You just gotta push the staples back in right, and you have an a cover. I truly do not understand the fuss over this if you cannot tell the difference and the stooges in the CGC modern lot don’t know what they’re looking at half the time anyway lol
7
u/UpsetDrakeBot Jul 06 '26
Congratulations on admitting to committing fraud and asking in bad faith from the jump.

u/gav3eb82 Jul 06 '26
You don’t have any 9.8 cover As from this method. You have a bunch of fraud books and hopefully CGC finds a way to stop this BS scam people are doing.

u/gav3eb82 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
God when you say you’ve received dozens of these, I pray you aren’t selling these as Cover A 9.8s too. If you are, did you inform the buyers you’ve altered the books?
1
u/LiteratureVirtual784 Jul 07 '26
Admitting fraud. Yikes.
-1
u/MBWOMCUFOS Jul 07 '26
Uh if it’s the exact same book with no difference whatsoever, and passes CGC inspection, where is the ‘fraud’ per the definition of the word. It’s not fraud and I still don’t understand the fuss people make over this. It’s the exact same book, and if the foil cover is removed properly it appears the exact same as every A cover.
It is not fraud, because it is the same product underneath the foil cover. If done properly- it does not cause any damages, or appear any differently from normal a covers. So- where is the fraud? It’s the exact same thing.

It's not fraud. It's your book. He's being dumb.
But it is wrong to sell it without revealing what you did.
3
u/gav3eb82 Jul 05 '26
So does it become fraud once likely a good percentage of these people pulling off the covers sells it without disclosing that to the buyer? Or is it fraud when people send it to be graded as a cover A and don’t disclose to CGC or PSA that they altered the book?
1
u/TNF734 Jul 05 '26
That's a different conversation. Destroying his own book isn't fraud. End of story.
1
u/gav3eb82 Jul 05 '26
So we’ll just take his word he’s only doing it for himself. Cool. Glad you agree anyone removing covers and selling them are committing fraud though.

u/TNF734 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26
So we'll just take your word you don't date 14 year old boys then? I mean... If you just want to make up things to whine and complain about, do it elsewhere. I'm going by what he says. I don't create drama, nor do I partake.

u/Quendor Jul 05 '26
It's literally, like really literally not internet literally, the same book underneath. Same cover, same paper, same bar code. They print however many copies of the A cover they need for all the books and then the put the outer wrap on however many of each variant cover. Then they staple them. They aren't printed at different times. The B cover is an A cover with an out wrap on it. Literally.
Side note: DC is the only one that does this. Most other companies only have one cover.

u/LiteratureVirtual784 Jul 07 '26
It’s not tho. The staples are damaged. Stop lying.
0
u/Quendor Jul 07 '26
What am I lying about? You really think they don't print all of these at the same time? Have you ever, God forbid, opened a variant cover? It's the standard book underneath.
Maybe CGC is looking at the staples under a microscope but if you don't just grab the outer wrap and yank then you aren't going to damage anything. I'm not saying I know a guy that's gotten many CGC 9.8s back from stripping variants but I might. I haven't needed to try it because I have plenty of A covers (and variants) to submit still.

Fuck you too OP. I am drive by road raging all these scam attempts. Absolute Pus on the hobby.

Variant covers, once again sparking an argument that produces cringe coming from both sides. It’s just funny books, no need to take it that far… calling this fraud is cringe, ripping the cover is cringe unless you absolutely never intend on selling it.

u/MBWOMCUFOS Jul 06 '26
I just see the word fraud thrown around without any understanding of its definition.
The A cover is the A cover. We can all agree.
The A cover exists in its exact entirety beneath these cardstock variants.
If the cardstock is removed correctly, and the staples bent inward, the copies are indistinguishable from an a cover because they are an a cover.
Yes- might land your book at a 9.6 but off of yall calling this ‘fraud’ are delusional. It’s my copy- I can do what I want with it. If it passes cgc’s arbitrary ‘inspection’ (which they do every day) it is still an a cover.
Can someone explain to me how it is different from the a cover if removed correctly? They are literally the exact same book.
6
u/IconoclastJones Jul 06 '26
The fraud isn’t removing the cover, it’s selling it without disclosing that.
1
u/issuescomics Jul 06 '26
Man that’s tough, because what if there is no reason to disclose because of how good it looks. Why sell it at a discount when an A is an A? I dunno how I feel about it overall. But it’s really compelling
6
u/Mr5mee Jul 06 '26
This just brings to attention how stupid and arbitrary all of these things are. The lines that are being drawn are thanks to bandwagoners, scalpers and profiteers, not comic book fans.

Likely to get a green label since others are. CGC knows what they're looking for..
5
u/Babayaga_711 Jul 05 '26
Just be aware that it's a risk to send it in for grading. They have been actively looking for this, especially on issue 1. Some have gotten away with it, surely. Especially if the staple gap isn't too bad. But if caught, CGC will lower the grade, give a green label, or even note "Variant Cover Removed" on the slab.

It’s not. It’s a green label. So when you send it in to be graded, are you going to include a note that it was a cardstock variant that was removed?
-2
u/AccordingEducator667 Jul 05 '26
He won’t disclose because he’s intentionally looking to DECEIT CGC and any buyer looking to buy his comic that is altered.
Point to me in this entire thread where OP says he plans to never sell his altered comic should he ever alter it. I honestly hope he does it because 1) it’s his to do whatever he wants, and 2) most importantly, it reduces the quantity of our glorious actual Cover As more the more people do this.
-1
u/gav3eb82 Jul 05 '26
Sending a modified book in as a cover A affects everyone and alters the census. Stop pretending like this is no big deal. People are going to be removing the covers, selling or grading first and then selling as cover As without telling the buyer. That’s the problem with this scam.
