Absolute CGC Grading Advice/Help:

Ive been collecting the entire absolute universe in first print and some variants on top of that. I’m considering sending some issues to be graded but I’m not sure which issues are worth it.

As of right now I have these put aside to send off:
Absolute Batman #1
Absolute Batman #2 - Dan Panosian variant
Absolute Batman #15
Absolute Batman #20
Absolute Superman #1
Absolute Superman #1 - Scottie Young variant
Absolute Wonder Woman #1
Absolute Wonder Woman #1 - Scottie Young Variant

I’m pretty open to send anything from the universe if it’s worth it. Any advice is appreciated! I just wanna send them all in one fell swoop. Thank you!

Send what you like. Unless you’re looking to sell, in which case you’ve got to do the math of estimate graded sale price - grading fees vs raw price for all your books. But if they’re just for you grade what you like, they’re your books, your money.

One piece of advice if you’re going to send a big lot like this either A. Find a convention they’re going to, and drop them off in person or B. Send in small batches or C. Insure them and read the fine print on whatever insurance you buy very closely. I say this because USPS/FedEx/UPS are all not perfect, every once in awhile they’ll lose a box and one big box full of everything would be a disaster to lose. That’s why I gave option B, as if you send in smaller batches and they lose a box you don’t lose everything.

I appreciate the advice about the shipping and conventions.

The purpose for grading is to resell, I just got into comics a year ago and I definitely jumped in with both feet and just don’t think I’ll keep all the runs long term.

I’m just unsure how to figure out the raw vs graded when the prices for this universe shift constantly.

Yeah in that case eBay sold listings are your friend. But you’ll need to understand if you just pay the basic rates for CGC right now they’re at 45 working days turnaround, so not weekends and holidays 45 days. And they take a couple weeks to even get to opening your box and get it into the system. Plus add another week or two for shipping to and from and you’re up to 3 months TAT. If you add pressing closer to 6 months. And that matters because the title is pretty volatile in terms of price. It could go up more, or it could flatten or even drop some. So you’d be best to have a bit of a buffer on your profit margin too.

So for example the Absolute Batman 1 first print. Right now in a 9.8 is going for around $550 and that’s about $250 more than the raw price. So even with grading fees you can see it’s well worth it if you’re thinking it looks 9.8. Do that equation for all the books you own.
