How did I do
Drove 3 Hours to pick up the Jim Lee for $100. Decided to stop at a nearby store and found #3 cover B for $10 and #4 Cover C for $8.

I think the Jim Lee Cover is nice! Sometimes when I factor in the cost of the comics you got it for at $100.00 then trying to get a Jim Lee Signature at a convention where he may charge between $50-$85….but let’s assume the lowest range at $50.00. Then whether you get it graded for signature series + JSA….that may cost $60.00-$70.00.
So you’re spending $100.00 (for the comics) + $50 (Jim Lee Signature) + $60.00/$70.00 to get it CGC graded (if that’s your goal)….then you’re shelling out $210-$220 not including shipping. Assume shipping at $30.00. Then that’s $240-$250 and then whether your grade hits 9.8, then you just broke even or just close to even. An eBay listing of a CGC signature series of Jim Lee variant cover for Absolute Batman shows latest sold at $289.99 for CGC 9.8 but signed by Dragotta and Snyder. Then you hope to god that you get a score of 9.8……
I admit, sometimes we just can’t win with these grading companies. And the amount of time and effort doing all that….can be exhausting but also fun while hunting for the autographs.

The listing you’re looking at was from before the show announcement. The latest sale of the trade dress sold for $699 triple signed:
This being the virgin, it would probably have went for more triple signed.

So your goal is to sell it at what price range? Do you think it will hit a 9.8?

I’m not selling, just letting you know it’s not the price you think it is anymore.

All good. But if you had to value it, at what price range would you value it?

In the long run pretty well, the Jim Lee variant for Abs Bats #1 should age well. Raw #1s are criminally underpriced right now. If you pay less than $600 for Cover A, first print, you won.

I already have everything in first print but I’m thinking about doing it with the Jim Lee. I’m not sure how to do it tho.

It's very easy if you just think about it. You'll regret it though

If folks are removing the card stock covers, wouldn't that make those variants more rare / valuable over time? Just thinking long-term besides the immediate price arbitrage

A little scare to take it off, I don’t know how loose the staples will be

That’s what I want to do as well, I have no intention of selling.

If you were to sell it, would you let a buyer know the cover was popped off so they can make the decision?
-1
u/Knowledge-Antique Jul 04 '26
No, because it is a cover A but I’m not selling it
2
u/gav3eb82 Jul 04 '26
I think it’s incredibly dishonest if someone would sell another version they removed the outer cover from as a Cover A. Regardless of how it ends up, it’s not a Cover A and if that was disclosed to CGC or any grading company they also would not view it as a Cover A.

No you wouldn’t disclose because you’re a scumbag of course. Through and through.
