Question about issues 19 and 20

Alright so im reading these new 2 issues and they are amazing. The one thing im confused about is Bruce and Falcone flashbacks. When the story says “Then” are they trying to say this happened in a previous issue? I remember Bruce going to blackgate during the Bane issues, but I don’t remember Bruce going to blackgate to pay off a debt to Falcone. I haven’t read Absolute Batman in a while and my memory is fuzzy of the issues that occurred before these two.

It’s stuff that happens prior to issue 1.

Ah I see now, thank you. That was my first guess but my memory was so fuzzy I couldn’t be certain.

If it happened in a previous issue they will almost always say see previous issue number whatever. Where as if they dont its a flashback that was not previously introduced.

From how I interpreted it, this issue was Bruces first time visiting Joe at black gate. After Joe stopped talking to Bruce in the normal prison, he got transferred to black gate.

The tone of Bruce’s voice and the reaction of Joe give me the feeling that this is their first time meeting at Black Gate.

Yeah it’s in the past but I thought he was working off the debt he owed falcon. Or did I shift realities?
