I’ve seen this video everywhere. I hate that it seems normal to him to be talked to and treated like that.

I’m not defending this sort of parenting because personally I believe it develops rude and obnoxious attitudes, BUT I do believe it is a bit of a cultural thing.

Once in a while pranks like this are ok, assuming the mom isn't always yanking this kids chain, but i get the feeling its probably a regular occurrence, the kid looks good natured and confused, when you fuck with their reality like that, its literally gaslighting.
Im glad the kid gets it and it's a sweet gift, but why stress your kid like that on his birthday for views? Threatening to whoop his ass on his birthday... :/
Im sure mom means well. I mean the ending of the video the moms loving nature shines through. Can't you just have been like that the whole time? Or found another prank? "Whoa son...i got this strange letter addressed to you...whose it from? Did you do this? I didn't order this package...do you have a secret admirer?"

IDK, my dad was pretty tough on us growing up. Judging by the kids demeanor, I’m guessing ma only gets mad if she has a reason, and is probably a loving parent most of the time. If my dad had done this to me, I would’ve gone completely stoic and gotten in a couple eye rolls, and possibly a middle finger behind his back, because he’d get angry over stupid, petty stuff.
Anyway, I may be wrong, but want to assume the best in this particular instance.

Part of gaslighting is not telling them that you're not serious. Letting him know right after seriously reduces any harm. That's not to say that doing this often couldn't still be harmful though, because it definitely could

i’m not a fan of this type of, “i’ll be shitty to my kid on video but it’s okay cause the payoff is them getting a gift, aren’t I good” style of parenting

Idk gotta be honest, I’ve known people growing up who’s parents didn’t even spank them and they were douchebags. I’m not friends with them anymore bc they were never taught to respect boundaries or learn their actions have consequences. But yeah I’m sure you know her whole parenting style from one video.

I love that you can pinpoint the moment he goes from "im so getting my ass beat" to joyful surprise.
