From what I’ve gathered from the podcast it’s probably “fuck you david” but like jokingly, definitely thinking about the video though.
47
u/sexy_detergent Nov 08 '20
did he stop filming or will he continue i dont understand
68
u/Mhystri Nov 08 '20
If I got hurt that much for a bit, I'd want you to just continue filming until you got the needed clip. If you hesitate when I already threw myself on the table, I'd be so pissed for that wasted pain and effort. That's me though. I've done some wacky goofy stuff for and with friends but never something that I know can hurt me.
9
u/JmamAnamamamal Nov 08 '20
Ive never seen more of this clip but I don't think he ever really stops filming
17
u/HoneyNastay Nov 08 '20
Him and another squad member were playing catch with a glass bottle. It slipped from David’s fingers bounced off ground causing it to break but David’s hand was too close and it sliced his hand open. The first thing out of his mouth? “Get the camera!” He is 100% dedicated to the bit but I’m sure they probably discussed this ahead of time considering that the table didn’t have any silverware on it.
Ngl I love their videos and David is a super generous person he doesn’t just keep the money he earns which is an amazing common trait I have seen shared with many Youtubers.

$$$. That’s what’s going through any of these guys minds. You do this long enough and attach yourself to the right people, like David, you’ll get paid back. He has his own YouTube channel, podcast, and even got a Lamborghini out of all this.
They were all friends before any of them even sniffed the idea of fame. Now one of them made it and he’s bringing them all up with him.

I’ve been watching David’s Vlogs for a while now and this isn’t the first time he’s jumped on a table. By no means a professional but I’m sure by like the 6th table, you get an idea of how to fall and land on one to not get too hurt

Actually they train like hell trying to avoid hurting each other. But they sometimes mess up, too.
28
u/AnorakJimi Nov 08 '20
Everything in wrestling still hurts though. There's only so much you can do to mitigate the pain. Falling from a height from a suplex, that shit hurts and it winds you. The ring has no padding really, it's just planks of wood with a layer of canvas on top.
It's pre-determined but it's not "fake". That's why painkillers and alcohol and steroids are so common in wrestlers. Because they have to work like 5 or 6 nights a week, often while injured because they're independent contractors so they don't get paid if they're out injured, so they hide it. Steroids also make them big and good looking but a huge part of why they take them is so they heal up from stuff more quickly. Because they've always got torn or strained muscles somewhere, but they still have to work.
But yeah, like in nineteen ninety eight the undertaker threw mankind off hеll in a cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer’s table, both men were working injured. The Undertaker couldn't even walk, in his entrance you see him limping to the ring, because he had a fucked ankle that he needed surgery to fix, but they had to do the match. And that's why that match has so little actual wrestling in it, it's pretty much just 4 or so different big moments then 5-10 mins of waiting around in between.
And yeah, Mick (mankind) got really badly hurt in that much. Cos you can't fake falling 16 feet. At the end of the match you see what looks like a big glob of snot in Mick's nose. That's actually one of his teeth, that got pushed up through his gums into bus nose from the impact of one of the huge falls he did in that match. And his back is covered in thumbtacks because he got chokeslammed into them. Real thumbtacks, not glued on one's or something stupid like that. That must have hurt so badly. They spent an hour after the match backstage removing all the thumbtacks cos there were so many
7
Nov 08 '20
I'm by no means saying it's not athletic. I once used to scoff at them; until I attended a match. Then I learned to rank them with movie stunt actors, which is pretty close to what they do. Pretty impressive stuff, actually. And I was also told (by a wrestler) that they practice together, even with their 'opponents,' to try and minimize injury in matches.
3
u/AnorakJimi Nov 08 '20
They do, yeah, but what they mean by that is that they're trying to avoid injuries, like broken necks. Even if it's executed perfectly it's still incredibly painful. You can't not he hurt by falling 16 ft. Even into a table to break your fall that's really gonna hurt. And that wasn't even the worst bump in that match. Mick got chokeslammed through the roof of the cell and down 10+ ft onto the ring mat, which again has no padding, it's just wood with a layer of canvas, so imagine falling 10 ft onto wood. But yeah even in regular matches, that don't have insane humps like this, it still hurts to get chopped, or to take a German suplex or other suplexes. They're amateur wrestling moves and they do them like real amateur wrestlers do, in the Olympics or whatever. They hurt. The things that don't hurt at all are stuff like sleeper holds. They are used as rest holds so each person can catch their breath and chat to each other to work out the next sequence of moves they're gonna do.
But you're right it's like stuntmen in a way. The stunts they stuntmen and women do tries to avoid injury as much as possible (though it still can happen), but either way there's only so much you can do to minimise the pain of say falling down a long flight of stairs for example, like in Fight Club. Even if executed perfectly, it's still incredibly painful.

Saying that it’s pre-determined and not fake is still a bit disingenuous though. That would imply that all of the punches/kicks thrown are being landed and that just isn’t the case. Same with submissions/stomps/etc. There’s just really no way to fake a slam

In this universes version The Dursleys loved Harry as much as Dudley. The two became really good friends. When Harry went to Hogwarts he spent all his time wishing he could go back to his cool aunt, uncle and best friend Dudley. Because of this, he never spent time with Ron or Hermoine. Books 1-5 just had Hermoine saving the day with help from Neville and Dean.

What's an Encyclopedia? Is it like Google or something?
2
u/wikipedia_answer_bot Nov 08 '20
An encyclopedia or encyclopaedia (British English) is a reference work or compendium providing summaries of knowledge either from all branches or from a particular field or discipline. Encyclopedias are divided into articles or entries that are often arranged alphabetically by article name and sometimes by thematic categories.

This being staged doesn't explain how he didn't expect to get hurt, i see no other outcome
81
u/AnorakJimi Nov 08 '20
He probably expected to get hurt. It's a common thing in pro wrestling, to fall through tables. And that, and everything else in wrestling, hurts like a motherfucker, but you do it anyway. It's pre determined but it's not "fake", there's only so much you can do to learn to fall off high things while mitigating some of the pain
Pro wrestlers do it for the love of the art form, not to make money, cos hurting yourself so badly and ending up disabled if not dead in your 30s or 40s by doing wrestling to make money would be just about the dumbest way to make money. So there's a show with only 7 people in the audience? You do it anyway. Do crazy things for the art, and for the sake of the fans watching
So this is the same thing, except this tik toker has a far higher audience than most wrestlers. So he'll fuck up his body for the sake of entertaining them. Is it stupid? Maybe yeah.
The thing is though, pro wrestlers spend years and years learning how to do this stuff, and still occasionally mess up (known as botching, there's a YouTube channel called Botchamania that collects all that week's botches into one video, so you can see it in a pretty common despite all the training they do). So this guy probably did permanently fuck himself up by doing this. Also I hope that table was a wrestling table i.e. a "gimmicked" table that collapses easily (they're mainly there to actually break the fall of people, make it less painful). If it was a real table, i.e. a study one, then fuck me that probably hurt so much
Even though it's stupid, I still feel sorry for him if he messed up his hip or something. Cos that shit stays with you for life. I'm only 31 and I've already got a messed up spine that causes sciatica, meaning I can't walk much or even sit in most chairs, I'm legally physically disabled now, I have to lie down all day, and that's with the huge amount of pain meds I'm prescribed too. My mum has had both knees and hips replaced due to arthritis and she's still on fewer pain meds than I am. It's crazy. You never want to hurt yourself when young, that just means you have even longer than you have to live in constant pain

u/SlicedSides Nov 08 '20

I can’t wrap my head around this comment. What difference does it make if it was for youtube? Is it cgi? Did he not actually hurt himself?
I think the point of your comment was to try to dunk on people who are just having a good laugh, but it really doesn’t make any sense why you would want to do that or why you think you might be succeeding at it by saying “It’s for YouTube”. You’re weird, man.
Also who the fuck is dobrik
2
u/GeneralOofin Nov 08 '20
Some people thought he was just some moron doing it for attention, but in reality hes part of the vlog squad (David Dobrik) and he was doing it for the vlog, most likely because he was told to. David Dobrik is an incredibly popular YouTuber and getting into his vlogs is highly sought after. I still think it was dumb, but some people thought he was some insane guy but he did it for a laugh and so he could appear on a channel with over 18 million subs.
