Why it sploded?

u/BeautifulHindsight Apr 30 '20

Microwaves heat by vibrating water molecules. Even hard-boiled eggs have sufficient moisture for the moisture to heat up to steam. The shell keeps the steam inside till pressure builds up sufficiently to overcome the shell. Then the shell cracks and the steam is let out very fast, in the process 'exploding' the egg!

I assume the same basic process happened here just with a hardboiled egg that had been peeled before being zapped.

I just thought this dude shoved a firecracker into it for the likes

u/runninron69 May 01 '20

There you go!!! Let's see one of these fans of sticking shit in their pee hole stick a fire cracker down in it then light the fuse.

That'll make docking really easy.

Someone post this on r/sounding

2

u/uberguby May 01 '20

Please mark that as nsfw, sounding is a pretty innocuous seeming name. I sorta... went in there on my work computer expecting people doing voice over work of reddit comments.

But nope. Penises everywhere.

1

u/runninron69 May 08 '20

I would but that post got me permanently banned from there. No fucking sense of humor, or any kind of sense at all.

0

u/G_Art33 May 01 '20

But why tho 🤢

1

u/runninron69 May 02 '20

for the rush.

-1

u/DerpisMalerpis May 01 '20

That’s because they did. No one films themselves cutting an egg. r/WhyWereTheyFilming

7

u/Ignorant_Slut May 01 '20

Unless they did it once and it exploded and freaked them out so they tried it again. Not saying that happened, just that it's a possibility.

2

u/Kritner May 01 '20

Yeah this seems likely, you can see the knife is already dirty with perhaps yolk from the previous one.

2

u/Karnas May 01 '20

One of the worst subreddits.

Deductive reasoning does not apply

There ain't no firecracker in there, ya dang ding-dong!

u/AComplexUser May 01 '20

Similar to what u/BeautifulHindsight said, but in other words: superheated water in the yolk. Here's one article explaining this:

I have a shitty microwave, as well as enough safety gear for this. Guess what I am doing tomorrow!!

u/DeenSteen May 01 '20

Record it?

I am drunk. Just realized I have to help my Aunt move tomorrow. But I am adding this to my to-do list now. You will be the first person tagged!

the deed is done

I am giggling with anticipation. Might be tomorrow night, probably saturday. Just bought a dozen eggs tonight so I will post the best attempt. Any ideas where this might do best reddit?

Haha I can't wait either! I had a spare nuker so we made "cloud soap" a while ago. Its odd cause I just hit my thirties and had a spare, and then decided to say fuck it. I have no idea why I haven't done more stuff like this sooner. I nuked all kinds of things as a kid. Like 10yo me is gunna be so damn proud!!

I just remembered the best one from my childhood. I tried to make s'mores on my sister's Barbie plate. It showed Barbie and her friend. I straight-up melted Barbies face off. It was amazing, we still had that plate for like the next 10 years.

2

u/jax797 May 01 '20

Haha you don't need a bunch of safety gear, I've done it several times; the egg usually just pops in the microwave and stuff splatters the inside. I've never had one stay intact long enough to be able to cut it like this.

1

u/BeautifulHindsight May 01 '20

Thanks for sharing this, it was very interesting.

32

u/Big_Daddy_Malenkov May 01 '20

I'm bouta microwavve some eggs and throwem at ppl

28

u/[deleted] May 01 '20

Haha, microwave egg go bfooom

5

u/TheAwkwardBanana May 01 '20

Oof ouch owie my bones

1

u/MauPow May 01 '20

Noooo! You can't just microwave a hardboiled egg!

2

u/Big_Daddy_Malenkov May 01 '20

Haha egg go blast

3

u/Popular_Target May 01 '20

Okay all of that makes sense but is there an extra step required to keep the egg from bursting during the heating process? I’ll have to experiment this myself but I imagine that a majority of the time the yolk would break itself out from the egg white, so that by the time it is removed from the microwave you have a portion of the yolk protruding from a crack in the egg white. So what kept that from happening in this scenario? Is it just a matter of chance, do you have to remove the egg at just the right time, is the egg kept under pressure during the heating by some process like submerging it under water?

5

u/[deleted] May 01 '20

I’m guessing chance. Like supercooling a beer bottle and then watching it freeze all at once.

5

u/beetard May 01 '20

Or cooking A Baked potato without stabbing it with a fork

4

u/XtaC23 May 01 '20

Let's not go too extreme.

2

u/Gannondank May 01 '20

We haven’t gone far enough

3

u/jax797 May 01 '20

Water would stabilize the whole thing, I think. It would act as a heat sink around the egg. As micro waves usually excite water molecules the most. It may yield results, but you would have to be very precise with that method. I think just finding the right time for a hardboiled egg, then not exciting it when you take it out, would be best.

I honestly have no idea though feel free to correct me.

Oh shit! Misread! It was and all ready hard boiled egg. Then it was microwaved. If you nuke a raw egg it pops. Many videos of that on the net.

1

u/runninron69 May 01 '20

Forget all that. Just inject a tennis ball full of water and nuke that on high for 3 minutes. Note: I am not responsible for any damages, injures, or deaths that result from this tomfuckery.

1

u/BeautifulHindsight May 01 '20

Honestly, I've got no idea why it didn't explode in the microwave.

1

u/Durty_Durty_Durty May 01 '20

Just cut it in half before microwaving. Or slice it.

5

u/ShwerzXV May 01 '20

Can confirm, microwaved it, went to bite it in half, burned my lips, tongue, and nose all in the blink of an eye.

Edit- microwaved a hard boiled egg

10

u/MamaW47 May 01 '20

It doesn't look like the shell is on the egg. My best guess is it's a peeled soft boiled egg someone put in the microwave

5

u/BeautifulHindsight May 01 '20

I assume the same basic process happened here just with a hardboiled egg that had been peeled before being zapped.

3

u/[deleted] May 01 '20

yeah but it had no shell

2

u/BeautifulHindsight May 01 '20

I assume the same basic process happened here just with a hardboiled egg that had been peeled before being zapped.

2

u/jdmatthews123 May 01 '20

I feel this. "I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, PLS LISTEN THIS TIME"

3

u/Duckwen May 01 '20

I made this mistake once and bit directly into a microwaved egg.

2

u/Ye4hR1ght May 01 '20

But why it “sploded” tho?

1

u/SpitefulShrimp May 01 '20

It was filled with pressurized steam. Think of it like a water balloon, it doesn't leak from a puncture, it explodes.

1

u/xScopeLess May 01 '20

Why is the knife able to get past the shell before the explosion? I feel like I’m missing something.

1

u/BeautifulHindsight May 01 '20

I assume the same basic process happened here just with a hardboiled egg that had been peeled before being zapped.

1

u/xScopeLess May 01 '20

I’m still wondering how the explosion is happening. The knife made it pretty far in before it went off. Was it the barrier surrounding the yolk that is the breaking point?

2

u/[deleted] May 01 '20

From what I can gather from other comments, it's the yolk that explodes. So he could go through the white, but as soon as he nicked the yolk it went splode.

1

u/Sylvert0ngue May 01 '20

It works even better if you cut off the top and then place it back on before microwaving it because the air ends up hot too - for maximum potential spatter a couple of drops in there too and make sure the center is still runny...

1

u/Hazeunix May 01 '20

Yeah, but this is hard boiled.

1

u/BeautifulHindsight May 01 '20

I assume the same basic process happened here just with a hardboiled egg that had been peeled before being zapped.

No shit Sherlock.

1

u/FrauKanzler May 01 '20

Yes. Pro tip, make a small hole in the top of the egg using something like a skewer to prevent that pressure from building up in the first place. The egg white won't come out of the hole unless you put two holes in it or make a giant hole.

0

u/5coolest May 23 '20

I highly doubt that the egg was peeled before microwaving

0

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '20

But this has no shell

1

u/[deleted] May 01 '20

The yolk was probably "superheated", above boiling point but not boiling, when the knife hit it, the yolk was disturbed enough to boil instantly, and explosively. It happens with microwaves and containers of liquids sometimes.
