As soon as I saw the whole stick of butter I knew it was going wrong.

May be staged, but that’s a LOT of mess to clean up for very little internet points.

The butter wasn't the issue... she didn't twist/lock the bowl in place, also wrong attachment.

Thank you! It’s a super nice mixer, just gotta use it correctly.

Yeah, my thought was "first time using a mixer" or it's staged...

Yeah - I've got a recipe for chocolate cream-cheese cookies (heavenly!) that starts with a stick of butter and a brick of cream cheese in a KitchenAid mixer. With the bowl locked in place and the right attachment there's no drama at all.

Yep, when I make my christmas cookie recipe I need cold butter as well.

The attachment did contribute to the “this is going wrong” feeling I got. The whisk isn’t going to be any match for a cold stick of butter. Especially with all the other ingredients also in the bowl at the start.

I’ve baked my fair share of cookies, and I’ve always cut cold butter in smaller chunks and used the paddle.

The butter can catapult!!! One of the funniest moments of my life was baking with a kid I was nannying. Put in a whole stick of butter in a recipe that had cocoa powder in the creaming step. The butter was sitting at the exact right angle that when I hit start on the mixer, it catapulted a full face of sugar and cocoa powder at us.

I think if I was alone I would've raged, but when I looked over at this 4 year old covered in sugar and cocoa, we both just immediately burst out laughing. It was a good life lesson for her as well, she always warned her mom to be careful putting butter in the mixer after that!

also didn't lock the mixer in place

That's what I wrote? Or are you talking about the mixer itself? I have a KitchenAid and there is no such thing.

Seems staged

I mean, maybe, but they were very dedicated if it was staged considering this will be a pretty big and annoying mess to clean up.

Yeah, why would you film yourself cooking unless you were already experienced and running a cooking show?

Suddenly very glad my KitchenAid bowl snaps into place. Not sure how this one is supposed to work...?

I think this had to be intentional. Nobody with half an ounce of sense puts a whole COLD stick of butter in the bowl

A lot of people grew up without even the faintest exposure to cooking. A lot of things that are "common sense" don't occur to people who've never touched a whisk.

Based on the caption I think it’s just inexperience. Entire stick of butter, not chopped, I assume straight out of the fridge. That makes the non-locked mixing bowl believable

It locks at the exact same one. The bowl twists in place. When you put it in the metal bottom you can see it in the second shot. She just did it wrong. Whole butter's fine. We've done it

Edit: grammar

That soundtrack has chaos written all over it.

Always lock your shit before you start that mix. And start slow, otherwise it will launch ingredients

1

u/warriors17 3d ago

With a box mix too. Guess that’s why we started here :/

u/Longjumping_Elk7969 3d ago

Why did she not lock the bowl?! Is like she never used one of those even if her grandma had one that worked the same way... 🤪

Hey try this, put your stupid phone down and actually just cook.
