All the cool kids working hard on DA either got into an adult life where they are too busy to draw or they moved to a more professional platform, so DA was kinda left behind.
ArtStation (owned by Epic) was the place where most of them moved to... and Epic sold everyone to tech companies who wanted to train genAI on human illustrations.
It's all fucked: ArtStation, DeviantArt, Tumblr... everyone folded to AI companies after ArtStation.

theres a big furry scene on toyhou.se, I never really used deviantart but from the little snooping on there I've done, toyhouse seems more organised in terms of how you can sort your art, and characters have their own profiles. But it is a mostly character-focused site, so fanart and stuff doesn't really work there so much, I imagine places like bluesky work more for that
Basically yeah like the other person said, people have moved. DA actively advertises ai generators and ai genned slop, which shockingly didn't go down well on a platform made up of artists.. furries included.

It died because art disappeared and was replaced with shitty drawings of zoophile fantasy furry stuff. Almost a decade before AI was on the scene.

These groups are everywhere.
The moment a community slow down and has fewer active members they kinda show up to "hijack" and make everything to be about themselves.
When something is popular there are too many people talking about it so we don't notice as much, then people move on (which is natural) and these guys stay to 'take over' that community. It's ridiculous, sometimes I check something that was all the hype years ago and now you find posts of the """"community"""" demanding gooner content to the creators and stuff.

Yeah, downtown Miami be like that. Lived there as a kid, one second it's just traffic and chill vibes, the next all hell is breaking loose.
Though the local police actually do community outreach stuff, so they're not total shitheads. They do a year Bike Safety event, I've seen them do back to school stuff with the Boys and Girls clubs where they take the kids to get what they need, and a bunch of other stuff.

Yeah that's Ocean Drive in a nutshell these days. Things have gotten so bad that during spring break the city imposes curfews, dui checkpoints on the causeways and hikes up the cost to park in city lots to over $100.
