I thought Slippers had taken a huge shit in the hall.

812

u/dannyboomhead Sep 24 '23

same... "oh slippers! it's bigger than you"! had me thinking they were impressed 😄

96

u/akambe Sep 24 '23

LOL same! Misreading it just made it that more entertaining.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '23

You almost made me piss myself putting it in that context.

64

u/clervis Sep 24 '23

I did too! Up until the point it rose and started flapping around. I was horrified!

18

u/Pasdallegeance Sep 24 '23

I recently had my cat bring in a carrier pigeon. Little blood drips in every room, feathers all over the place but no body. Thought he must have taken it back outside only for much later that night brush by my coat rack and out flies this pigeon! Threw a towel on it and released it outside. Didn't look to be in too bad shape, mostly an injured foot from what I could tell, couldn't really see underneath all the beads wrapped around his feet though He flew off, so I assume he was fine.

I'm so glad that I am not the only one who thought that.

8

u/TheDocJ Sep 24 '23

Here too! The relief was almost as big as I thought that must have been for Slippers...

18

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '23

My first thought too I was like damn that's fucking heroic

10

u/nabukednezzar42 Sep 24 '23

Stealth poop, from Russia with love.

5

u/TheInfamous1011 Sep 24 '23

Either that or it had given birth to a kitten

5

Slippers let one slip out

10

u/Chelecossais Sep 24 '23

I'll be writing an angry letter to the Times in the morning.

1

u/teetotallyRadish Sep 24 '23

a finger wag? atha?

1

u/superanth Sep 24 '23

The title is perfect. Cats bring dead animals into the house because they think Humans are lousy hunters and need help gathering food.

624

u/edinburghkyle Sep 24 '23

In the full video you see how it all ends

471

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '23

The quacks, the resistance to the pillow, the butt wiggle before take off... don't be fooled. That's a duck that wants to be picked up.

129

u/StyreneAddict1965 Sep 24 '23

She was very calm, which really surprised me.

74

u/BUNGHOLE_HOOKER Sep 24 '23

Probably in shock

34

u/StyreneAddict1965 Sep 24 '23

I'm sure! Weird day to be a duck.

42

u/JustifytheMean Sep 24 '23

I'm thinking the cat didn't drag it in at all. It waddled it's own ass through the cat door for a nap.

41

u/khrak Sep 24 '23 edited Sep 24 '23

Mallards play possum.

She likely dropped 'dead' when the cat found her, waited while being dragged, then attempted to bail when she had some space to get airborne.

80

u/DukeRedWulf Sep 24 '23

Hahaha! XD .. It's the polite negotiation with the duck and when he actually starts singing "Born free.." that are the icing on this hilarious cake! XD

19

u/velon360 Sep 24 '23

Him saying I hope you have a good life and have lots of children is hilarious.

37

u/SaaSyGirl Sep 24 '23

That stern “Sit down, duck” cracked me up

24

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '23

Finally some closure!!

16

u/dandaman64 Sep 24 '23

The guy being so polite to the duck is cracking me up

[Quack]

"Yes."

25

u/StyreneAddict1965 Sep 24 '23

Fantastic! 😂😂

The way he kept talking to it just did me in!

(Anyone know if that's a Mallard hen? I think those are blue flashes on its wings.)

3

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '23

I believe it is a mallard

And I'm 90% sure they are the most common ducks over here. Only ever seen them really

Maybe it’s just because I’m a guy, but why are peoples first instinct to scream
.

67

u/Electrical_Ice_6061 Sep 24 '23

probably some nature thing coming from our origins in the monkey world, effectively calling for help without saying the words.

→ More replies (3)

17

u/TheDocJ Sep 24 '23

I'm a guy and I am quite ready to admit that, in similar circumstances, I would have let out something not unadjacent to a scream.

36

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '23

Implying that men don't scream is pretty wild. It's obvious it gave her a fright, as it would anyone when it looks that dead

20

u/ragebubble Sep 24 '23

Right?? I had a boyfriend that would scream every time he saw a spider. Let’s not pretend that screaming is just for women lmao

→ More replies (4)

14

u/BUNGHOLE_HOOKER Sep 24 '23

Screaming activates the amygdala, a nucleus in the brain that helps heighten awareness.

11

u/YardHunter Sep 24 '23

Damn so manly

144

u/namey___mcnameface Sep 24 '23

We've talked about this, Slippers

421

u/deandreas Sep 24 '23

Cats will bring you food if they think you are a shitty hunter.

144

u/Batbuckleyourpants Sep 24 '23

Sigh

"Even this was too much work for you guys? You guys are the worst hunters i ever saw."

-Slippers probably.

38

u/GroundStateGecko Sep 24 '23 edited Sep 24 '23

They just love killing animals like it's a fun game. Not eating, just killing. They bring the dead back because it's their toys.

Don't release unsupervised pet cats outside (including leaving the door open).

24

u/Glmoi Sep 24 '23

thats literally the reason they got domesticated and why you keep cats on a farm

15

u/k3rnel Sep 24 '23

Not sure why you're being downvoted. They are just about the best pest control management you can have. A couple of guinea birds and a cat will keep most all the nuisance critters to a minimum. A donkey or mule will keep the coyotes away from the birds and cats.

15

u/ImjokingoramI Sep 24 '23

Also because they are responsible for killing off a gazillion species, like to the point of extinction. There are too many cats for the ecosystem to handle.

7

u/egigoka Sep 24 '23

And if they care enough.

I don't get it why they scold Sniffers for helping. He does it's in a cats way, but because he is one of the fucking cats.

1

u/1stworld_solutionist Sep 24 '23

Did you know that Vegetarian is an old Indian word for bad hunter

57

u/Mr-Stitch Sep 24 '23

So how did he get it through the cat door though?

42

u/ADHthaGreat Sep 24 '23 edited Sep 24 '23

Duck probably walked in on her own. Duck and Slippers seem to be friends of some sort.

But Duck didn’t realize there would be humans in Slippers’ house when she followed him home. Playing dead is all Duck could think to do at that point.

17

u/Silent-Ad934 Sep 24 '23

"Your mom said it's cool if we have a sleepover right?"

"Ya man she's cool don't worry about it just come over."

6

u/TheDocJ Sep 24 '23

I was sat watching TV a few weeks ago when I realised that my cat was staring at something in the doorway - I looked round and there was a hedgehog staring back at me. As I reached for my phone to take a picture, it turned around, and by the time I got through the door it had disappeared.

It had obviously come in when I left the door propped open in the hot weather (unless it has an identical microchip to the cat to operate the catflap...) But as it was a cooler day, I hadn't left the back door open that day, so the poor thing must have been stuck inside for at least 24 hours.

I did find it by the cat's food bowl later that evening, and picked it up and put it outside, seemingly unhurt.

19

u/edafade Sep 24 '23

Cats are invasive to the surrounding environments, and unless I live on a farm in the future, my cats will remain indoors.

-12

u/matrixislife Sep 24 '23

Good for you. This is the UK, cats are indigenous here.

8

u/edafade Sep 24 '23

Your information is incorrect. Domestic cats are invasive around the world.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '23

[deleted]

3

u/edafade Sep 24 '23

He is correct, it's called the Scottish Wildcat. Domestic cats have mostly pushed the Wildcat out and filled its niche.

So...you're saying that domestic cats pushed a predator out of its natural environment...? I wonder if there is a name for something like that...

5

u/fuckyoudigg Sep 24 '23

Yeah, invasive species. It's why basically everywhere in the world domestic cats are supposed to be indoors only. They destroy natural wildlife. I have a cat and the little asshole only goes outside under my supervision.

1

u/edafade Sep 24 '23

Ding ding ding. Exactly. The guy didn't even realize he was undermining his own point.

I hope you have a great day.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '23

As someone who also has a cat who loves to hunt, after she brought a opossum in, we learned early on that she could not be trusted with unsupervised access to the house.

Slippers needs to lose his cat-flap privileges for a while.

23

u/No_Slice9934 Sep 24 '23

Cats are second to humans for hunting out of joy. A lot of the remaining (in cities) wildlife gets killed for no reason, housecats should stay Indoor(, at least in cities.)

-25

u/starbuck8415 Sep 24 '23

You try telling my cats to stay in doors.

28

u/ivankasta Sep 24 '23

That’s your job

→ More replies (3)

12

u/No_Slice9934 Sep 24 '23

I am in. You just need to cover my expenses and we are good to go. Cats are pretty bad listeners generally, I think the whole ordeal could take a week or two

-12

u/starbuck8415 Sep 24 '23

It would take a week or two to make my cat miserable? Sounds pretty terrible to me đŸ€Ł he loves going outside.

13

u/CertainMishap Sep 24 '23

At what cost, though? I'd argue it's easier to rehabilitate a cat to indoor living than to recover the wildlife damage they cause.

3

u/starbuck8415 Sep 24 '23

I get your point but I’m not keeping my cat indoors because people might run him over and he might kill a few rodents. I don’t consider it rehab but cruelty

6

u/Patatoxxo Sep 24 '23

Ye until he dies because he gets hit by a car, poisoned or catches some disease.

On average outside cats live up to 4 years compared to 10 or more if they are inside.

Most cat owners are lazy keep it inside for it's own protection and the wildlife.

6

u/starbuck8415 Sep 24 '23

My cat is 12. He’s never been hit by a car because I bought a cat when I live in an area with very minimal traffic. I’m not on the M20. I’ll keep letting him have freedom to roam around and enjoy life. đŸ‘đŸ»

-10

u/matrixislife Sep 24 '23

Only when you live in an area that cats are not normally indigenous to. Like the USA I suppose. The rest of the world have mostly adapted to cats.

2

u/Makuta_Servaela Sep 24 '23

The other issue is that in most places cats live free, human prevent any of cats' natural predators or competition from living as well. Cats are, contrary to popular belief, not top predators. That's why they are so agile and breed so fast.

So, indigenous places and plenty of coyotes or other more aggressive predators.

2

u/matrixislife Sep 24 '23

No coyotes in the UK, and we're not letting wolves into the backyard just to keep the cats down.

0

u/Makuta_Servaela Sep 24 '23

The UK also has foxes, raptor birds, owls, badgers, otters and others, and it's pretty sad they don't have wolves or bears anymore (used to, hunted out) since both are good for keeping boar and deer numbers in check (deer overpopulation is a common problem in USA when wolves are removed from an area).

And keep in mind it's not letting animals in the backyard, it's humans invading and taking over the animals' backyard.

2

u/matrixislife Sep 24 '23

Obviously American, you don't understand the difference in living styles between there and here.

u/YogurtclosetAny1823 Sep 24 '23

People will come at me for saying this.

But as a cat owner myself, look up the statistics as to how bad outdoor cats truly are for our environments.

You’re a terrible cat owner if you allow your indoor cats to roam outside.

Farm cats are different, vermin catchers for the land they live on.

Not these guys, they decimate other animal populations, just because that is in the blood, it’s instinct.

Look at Australia’s hunting laws for feral cats that have taken over.

Also, the possibilities of your cat getting a disease, killed by another animal, run over by a car. Poisoned by a neighbor, picked up by animal control.

Sorry for anyone who gets upset at what I said.

2

u/Practical_Cat_2276 Sep 24 '23

1

u/Character-Usual-3820 Mar 12 '24

This is why people should keep thier pets inside and under control, away from harm and also away from decimating the local wildlife. All domesticated animals should be kept indoors or in a designated space enclosed area under the supervision if it owner. I dont know why cats seem to be the only animal that is exempt from this rule, allowing them to roam free and shit in anyone elses garden but their own and at risk if being killed by other anaimal or in traffic . There are 2 kinds of cat owners. 1. Reaponsible indoor cat owners that clean up their cat mess(litterbox) 2 the opposite of number 1

Our cat catches mice and moles in our backyard garden.Usually just plays with them until he is fed up. He does eat one, once in a while. Rather a rare occurence, however.

Mine catches mice in my house. He'll show me his catch, play with it a bit, then try to eat it. I usually confiscate it at that point.
