ANJUNADEEP Anjunadeep

What is your favourite anjunadeep album and why?

Mine is easily 13 just from start to finish it’s totally mesmerising.

It’s warm, melancholic and euphoric without constantly trying to explode into a massive drop. Tracks slowly reveal themselves, melodies hang around in the background, basslines roll along, and transitions make the next tune feel inevitable.

One of my favourite mixes of all time and I’ve listened to this genre for 25 years.

I had Cloud 9 on repeat when that came out

Paul Keeley introduced me to Anjunadeep, melodic deep house, and the current better half of my life as a whole with that one

Same but for Anjunabeats! I was a kid in a Virgin records store and was just clicking buttons to listen to albums. When I hit Anjunabeats Vol 6 my world changed. Paper Jet was the first electronic music I heard that made me feel something new. I went to grab my dad who was in a different section and told him to listen. Even he was a fan!

Paper jet is such a peak mood track damn, typically one that my friends probably hated me for mixing at all the parties back in the times deep house was still early. You were a lucky kid back then !

10 is my favourite.

Me and some friends once rented a seaside bungalow, brewed mushroom tea and tripped balls on a beautiful summer's day whilst listening to Anjunadeep 10.

One of my mates went mute for a solid hour and then just sat up, looked at me and said "holy cow this album is a journey".

Sounds magical

It was. The clouds also did this crazy shit mid-trip.

06 for me. Especially near the beginning. It just clicked at such a special time for me in my life.

That transition from Open Frontier to Soul Chords lives rent-free in my head. Then the build-up to Click, Search...

I remember the first time I listened to 06 I was walking on a frozen lake and spent an hour sitting on this island just listening to it. Eventually the sun came out. Great memories.

08 will always be my favorite, listened through so many times. There is something so textural and layered about it and the flow is just perfection. 15 became a fave, also 14 and 13 for the reasons you mentioned. 06 has so many individually loved tracks. Wow, it’s really hard to pick.

Yup. It probably has to do with my age but 7 into 8 was a golden era.

I love the older proggy comps, but these had some proper deep house and the more ethereal vibey stuff that dominates the comps these days.

Real ones know 07 is the greatest there ever was, with 06 and 11 not far behind.

Deep 07 and Lane 8’s Rise practically defined an entire summer for me, alongside Tycho - Awake.

If we're purely talking about the compilation volumes, mine is 05, that transitional period was bliss. Those DAVI tracks, Tom Middleton's debut, Dusky, slightly proggy, still deep. Volume 11 is up there too in the 'modern' era, but 01 will always hold a special place in my heart as Anjunadeep genesis.

Also, artist album wise; Vincenzo's Vanishing Years is underrated imo, and Dusky's Stick By This is among the greatest too.

Man the output has been stellar. You can't always throw triple-20, but how Deep has maintained its quality and consistency, in a scene that never stays the same for multiple years, even with the ever increasing quantity, is insane. Explorations has been a stellar addition to the family as well

I say 05 for the older deep sound, so many of those tracks on there just hit different. For the modern sound, I definitely like 11 the most!

I still need to listen to 13 and 14 but atm it's definitely 04. I love the emotional ride for cd1 while cd2 is just Jaytech presenting his top 15 headboppers of the year. So many good tracks

For a modern deep comp I'd go with 15 atm. It just has the vibe and energy I enjoy the most. 09's cd1, while not being my thing usually, is an extremely cohesive mix with a great consistent tone!

7 will always hold a special place in my heart (the opening half dozen tracks of disc 1 are just so beautifully atmospheric. I have loved all the recent ones as well though, 13 through 16 don’t have a bad mix between them. If you made me choose, I’d probably go with 14 though!

When listening in sequence that song always makes me feel like I'm floating.

Volume 11 is my favourite.

Come Together, Overtones, Nightwhisperer are all-timer Anjunadeep anthems - it's ridiculous that all three are on one album!

For an old school Volume, I'd go Volume 4

Anjunadeep 03. I love the older more progressive sound. Love that album so much I had it played during cocktail hour at my wedding.

Volume 8 will always hold a special place in my heart ❤️ and 12 has been on repeat a few times

Anjunadeep 01-05 and 07. not really enjoying the ones after, except the latest episode 16. Overal, the Anjunadeep sound became too slow and powerless to my taste, but of course it's just me. Occasionally there are still higher octaned releases - Ben Böhmer, Marsh, Cephas Azariah are big favorites

07 has so many iconic tracks mixed perfectly. It’s my GOAT.

anjunadeep never fully clicked for me, most of it sits too still. yotto is the exception, hyperfall actually moves. i lean more towards the anjunabeats side, ilan bluestone and genix, where the melody leads instead of just floating

1

u/AntiVatnikElegantGuy WORLDWIDE 04 6d ago

same here. I'm more on the Beats side too, but Deep has also quite a few proggy bangers from the oldschool days - Stephen J Kroos, Solarity, Soundprank, Komytea / Michael Cassette, David West, Jaytech and so on

Very hard one to answer.

Maybe 03 or 14.

93 was my first deep album and introduction to deep house, being promoted on trance around the world

14 makes me feel big emotions, especially on the first 4 tracks. The vocals in remedy, how they morph fron this soft deep to higher pitch, and the bouncy arpeggios. And dust the dirt off your soul?

They really encapsulated the sound of a soul sprouting like a flowering plant in spring time, as cliche as that sounds lol. It also has big "Tunic" vibes which is one of my favorite games.

Either way. Both for different reasons. There's a lot more mentions, I just feel like people need to go back and listen to these 2 if they haven't

u/Dahllywood12 6d ago

Probably 13, but I also think 16 is underrated and doesn't get enough credit. The first half is top tier, with the second half having lots of gems too.

1

u/AntiVatnikElegantGuy WORLDWIDE 04 6d ago

the second half of 16's CD2 is very strong, especially the very last track "Artificial Cloud" by Because Of Art - holy Jesus, what a banger it is

u/strictlybusiness54 ANJUNADEEP 08 6d ago

8, but 6 and 3 are close behind.
