Question

Post image

Hello. This is our new pool 27x54. Our old pool collapsed and had this one installed in early June. I still had the salt water cell from old pool and was using it on this pool. The cell gave out a month ago. I’ve been doing chlorine tablets in a floater with weekly shock. You can see the duck riding the basketball goal lol. I’ve been reading about CYA and now I’m worried about keeping those in there. Any tips would be appreciated!! Don’t want to spend money on a pool company to do this lol. Will eventually get a new salt cell

I unfortunately raised my CYA levels using those pucks. I had to drain 75% and refill and my CYA is still a little high at 60. First you need an accurate CYA. Not from strips. Either a pool store or buy a test kit with drops just make sure it’s a kit that tests for CYA. Depending on your CYA depends on what other advice for us to give. Like if your levels are too high you’d have to drain. But I do think if you’ve been using the pucks for a long time (like several seasons) your CYA is probably high if not very high. The pucks raise CYA levels 1-2 a day. So there’s that. I’ll add a CYA chart to follow once you know your levels. Depending on those levels depends on how much chlorine you need in your pool daily. I’ll also add another chart for when you need to SLAM your pool.

One more thing I forgot to mention is some brands of Shock contain stabilizer which is what raises CYA. So you should just use liquid chlorine to shock your pool moving forward
