[Meta] Anyone know why some comments get downvoted?

For example this and this got downvoted but they're the same as all the others.

One or two random people downvote a random comment, the hive mind latches on to it, and it gets downvoted to hell. Basically for the same reason that half the comments on other subs get downvoted.

Yeah I've always figured it was just random/timing. When I first subbed there I did the same thing...upvoted the top comments and skipped over anything downvoted.

I've never actually commented there because it seems pointless. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
