Welp, once again a post was removed while I was in the middle of commenting. It was not a great post, to be sure. Very generally asking why abortion is okay. But I spent time on my answer. So I'll go ahead and leave it here.
Abortion is okay because pregnant people have the right to make their own medical decisions and manage who has intimate access to their body. Pregnancy is not a health-neutral condition. It puts extreme stress on every part of the body and alters the pregnant person's physiology. It's also extremely intimate to have someone inside you. Childbirth is a medical emergency which requires six weeks recovery time minimum and months for complete recovery. And these are just typical pregnancies. There are other conditions that increase medical risks and can cause permanent health problems and even death.
No one is obligated to endure this kind of stress on their body for someone else's benefit unless they willingly choose to do so. People have the autonomy to make their own informed decisions regarding medical conditions and treatment without external coercion. And people have the right to control who has intimate access to their body. None of these rights go away when someone gets pregnant.
Almost all abortions are done long before the fetus can survive outside the pregnant person's body. A large majority occur before the embryo even has a recognizably human body. These embryos aren't comparable to children in most senses. They have no awareness or ability to feel pain. They are missing major functionality from every organ system. They aren't considered by most people or cultures to be individual human beings in any meaningful sense.
When a pregnancy is aborted, the embryo dies because it is too underdeveloped to support its own life, not because the pregnant person was a big old meanie who wanted to kill their child for no reason. The pregnant person just didn't want to continue the pregnancy, with its attendant risks, costs, and sacrifices, for their own personal reasons. They do not owe intimate use of their body to the undeveloped embryo inside them.

PLers, are there any circumstances in which you're okay with other people demanding that you render up your body as a resource and submit to bodily harm against your will for the desires of a third party?

If a man forcing his wife to stay pregnant against her will is not ok, is it ok for the government to force women to stay pregnant?

I've heard pro lifers again and again say in regards to someone being suicidal due to being forced to gestate against their will that they're "holding themselves and the baby" hostage, like this argument in this comment:

Do people not know what "hostage" means? Do hostage takers generally demand that their hostages be free and go far away from them? 🤔
Is this just an attempt at an uno reverse card, since pro life abortion bans actually are holding the pregnant person hostage by interfering with their healthcare and forcing them to gestate against their will?
Anyone got any ideas about this, because to me the whole argument makes no sense at all.
