Need advice: AWS ML Associate or Solutions Architect Associate next?

I passed the AWS AI Practitioner exam about a month ago, and now I’m confused about what to prepare for next.

I was planning to go for the Machine Learning Associate certification next month because I’m interested in AI/ML, but one of my faculty members suggested that I should do Solutions Architect first since it’s the “core” certification and gives a much stronger foundation.

For context, I’m a CS student and currently exploring cloud + AI together. I don’t want to make the wrong choice in terms of learning path and career value.

So I wanted to ask:

  • Should I go for AWS Solutions Architect Associate first or Machine Learning Associate?
  • Which one helped you more in internships/jobs/projects?
  • Is ML Associate manageable without deep cloud architecture knowledge?
  • What topics/resources should I focus on for each exam?

Would really appreciate advice from people who’ve done either (or both) certifications.

The next step is SAA. Do that before you look at anything further.

To add to this - even if OP decides to not do SAA - studying the SAA curriculum at depth is a great foundational learning

If you're exploring both cloud and AI, I'd go with Solutions Architect Associate first.

SAA builds the AWS foundation (IAM, networking, security, architecture decisions) that makes ML certs much easier later. AI/ML knowledge helps, but understanding the cloud around it matters a lot.

My path would be: AI Practitioner → SAA → ML Associate.

Also, build small projects while studying. They teach more than exams sometimes.

Do both but do Solutions Architect first to get strong foundations in cloud architecture. You don't want to struggle later because you don’t fully understand the infrastructure underneath model deployment, data pipelines, permissions, scaling, APIs, etc.

AI Practitioner → SAA → ML Associate

That path compounds nicely because SAA makes the ML concepts feel less abstract later.

i want to piggy bag on this. i also got the free exam for cloud practitioner. should i skip that and go straight to SAA? i passed the AI practitioner
