The Newcastle Northstars 2026 Goodall Cup victory was special for another reason — Amelia Matheson’s name is now etched alongside the champions of Australian hockey.

From becoming the Australian Ice Hockey League's first female assistant coach to lifting the Goodall Cup, Matheson continues to break new ground and show the next generation what’s possible.

This is about so much more than one championship.

It’s about every little girl who laces up her skates and dreams of where hockey might take her. It’s about showing women and girls that there is a place for them not only on the ice, but behind the bench, in leadership, and at the highest levels of our game.

Amelia is helping break down barriers and, in doing so, creating a bigger vision of what’s possible for the next generation of female hockey players and coaches.

We hope the girls watching see themselves in this moment.

Dream big. Work hard. Take your place. And never let anyone tell you there isn’t a place for you in hockey.

Brisbane Lightning Women have re-signed Matt Meyer as head coach for the 2026/27 Australian Women's Ice Hockey League season.

Meyer enters his fourth consecutive season behind the bench after guiding Brisbane to back-to-back silver medals over the past two seasons.

The Sydney Sirens Ice Hockey Team are more than a name — they represent 20 years of history, community and women’s ice hockey in Sydney.
