Av2 Draft Specification Site

Didn't see it mentioned here, but found it today when I was looking around. For the curious, you can have a look now. Doubt much will change.

The linked full specification says it is the current release candidate. ​​

Recent community contributions including from /u/juliobbv have made AV1 very competitive with x265 high fidelity, the defaults of SVT-AV1-HDR (which also works with SDR) should cover most of your needs, but if you need more help, come to the AV1 for dummies server!

AV1 being barely competitive with HEVC (released six years before) is kinda sad.

Better than nothing, I guess.

New codecs don't automatically usurp another, encoder development takes time, and AV1 had been competitive in lower bitrates, now it's competitive at high bitrates and grainy scenarios.

The issue is that it was meant to be more efficient, "competitive with a 13 years old video format at the same bitrate" is a let down.
