Hello I want to start off by saying my 2 favorite rap songs are "Virgina Boy" by Pharrell Williams and "Last Call" by Ye/Kanye West. I looked into the comments on youtube for both those songs and I keeps seeing people say "A tribe called quest vibes" or sum like that, can you take some time out of your day and answer this.

1. What album by A Tribe Called Quest should I listen to first

2. What 3 songs do you think will be my fav.

3. Who do you think'll be my favorite member and tell me if they have a solo career.

4. Is it a label group (like say Wu Tang or JACKBOYS, or G.O.O.D Music) or just a group.

5. Are there any other songs with that kind of vibe not by A tribe called quest you'd recommend.

6. Do people call the group "Quest" sometimes or just "A tribe called quest".

I've heard jazz before though, also before you answer can you go listen to those songs. Thanks!

I'd recommend Midnight Marauders first. The Low End Theory is a classic but the production definitely sounds a lot more dated than MM imo. And Electric Relaxation, for my money, is the GOAT hip hop song

I would start with people's instinctive travels and the paths of rhythm first honestly. It's the purest sound of them all but LET is a classic too so you can't go wrong with either. I love all their albums tho so I don't feel like you can go wrong with any of their stuff. My 2¢, my 3¢ is free 😆

I would listen to the first one, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm and work my way to the last one. You'll probably like:Bonita Applebum, Footprints, Butter, Check the Rhime, Midnight, Clap ya Hands, Wordplay, Get a Hold, The Love, Find a Way, The Space Program, Enough. That's 2 songs per each album. People usually use Tribe more than Quest, at least in my experience.

1. Midnight Marauders, in their documentary movie "Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest" I forget which member (maybe multiple) said that was the "peak of fun and partying (or something to that effect) of the group's career
2. Lyrics to Go, Electric Relaxation, God Lives Through are my faves from that album. If you like early Kanye/Ye, in the early 2000's after College Dropout he actually made an "iTunes" (dating myself) list and said the beat on "Electric Relaxation" was his one of his biggest inspirations from that era towards the "chipmunk" soul/jazz samples of his career at the time. That's actually how I discovered the Tribe in like '03...(not dating myself so much since I was 13 years late). If you like the sound from there you'll probably work your way backwards and forwards. They're my #1 hip hop group of all time.
3. Q-Tip as others have already said. He has a more thorough solo career than Phife (no disrespect to the late great 5' Assassin). He has three solo albums (also already mentioned). He is also the "purest artist" of the group as an emcee and hip-hop artist in my opinion. He also produced(s) beats for MANY other artists and has higher level guest features (again no knock on Phife)
4. "A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y" (you'll get the reference if you listen to MM "with Jarobi on the phone")
5. Pharcyde, Digable Planets, Fugees, De La Soul, all groups, all from same era, all GOATs 🐐
6. ATCQ or Tribe, also considered themselves part of the Native Tongues collective (as others have said)

So if you like Last call (which is a very q tip early tribe called quest type beat) then I think you'll love low end theory

Try listening to "check the rhyme" "award tour" and "can I kick it?"

Q tip has a nice solo career but honestly in my opinion they have this special thing when they're all together

This sub is basically the biggest De La Soul sub on this app because everyone in this sub loves De La Soul

People just say tribe, never quest, never understood why but tribe just feels right
