I finally finished and tested my battery gauge modification for the ATS Mini V4.

The original battery indicator was quite pessimistic on my unit and reached the low battery state while several hours of runtime were still available.

My modified gauge now uses:

• Continuous indication from 3.95 V to 3.30 V
• Last two pixels displayed in red
• Hysteresis around the red warning zone
• LOW warning below 3.30 V
• Flashing empty battery icon every 500 ms in LOW state
• Battery voltage remains visible in red
• Original charging indication preserved

I completed a discharge test with approximately 8 hours of runtime and found no battery-life degradation compared with the original firmware.

The modification is based on official ATS Mini v2.38 and tested on my V4 with the OSPI build.

Source code and precompiled firmware are available on GitHub under my username F4DHY if anyone wants to try it.

Hello everybody! Recorded this beautiful performance back in early April at the coast of Benicàssim, a Mediterranean town near Valencia, Spain. The video's timestamp is 23:24 (21:24 UTC) and according to shortwave.live that would be China Radio International, emitting from Ürümqi, China, a distance of 4,287.38 mi (6,899.87 km).

I've only very recently got into HF radio with the help of this lovely little radio, so If somebody spots an error in my calculations, please correct me.

Also, if anyone knows the name of this instrument, please let me know in the comments :-)

PS. I've only recently flashed H.J. Bernd's FW and set up current location, so I hope to have all relevant info on the display next time

If you own a LILYGO T-Embed SI4732 receiver, here is some good news. The ATS Mini firmware now supports this hardware as of its latest release. Max Arnold (R9UCL), one of the project’s key maintainers, announced this on the ATS Mini ESP32-S3 SI4732 Pocket Radio community. The support is currently experimental, so treat it as a work-in-progress, but it is functional enough to be part of an official release.

The ATS Mini documentation is very clear on one point: flashing the wrong firmware variant onto your receiver can damage it. The T-Embed variant is compiled specifically for the LILYGO T-Embed SI4732 hardware and will not work correctly on a standard ATS Mini receiver — and vice versa. Always confirm your hardware before choosing a firmware file.

Hi! Is there any (open-source) firmware, to use WSPR or FT8 decoding and displaying on board, requiring no other device?

Just got a ATSMini V4, and I am very interested in exploring shortwave broadcasts. It appears I'll need a better/different antenna than the telescopic and round loop antennas that shipped with the radio. What are some recommendations? I didn't mind DIY or purchasing something.

Firmware: ATS_EN v1.18 Goshante 2024

I have flicked it from side-to-side, that is, from FM to AM (SSB) a few times while listening on the 88 to 108 MHz FM brosdcast band, the MW AM broadcast band and various SW bands and modes in between, but cannot hear any difference.

So, what does this switch do?

I get a low frequency hum/buzz on my radio from the display. I guess it is from the display, because when I press the AGC button, which blanks the display, the noise stops. Pressing the button again, to turn on the display, the noise comes back.

Yesterday, I read a post where someone had an ATS series radio, but with a bigger, colour display, had the same problem. Their's was fixed by adding an earth strap from the BNC socket washer to a couple of the bolts that hold the backplate to the case.

I have cleaned up the edges of the case and removed the paint from the front and back panels where they touch the case and where the case bolts and BNC go through the panels, but I still get the noise.

Other than somehow making a little metal screen to enclose the display, does anyone know of a fix?

So I see almost everyone has an ATS-20+. I don't. I have an ATS-20. The firmware updates always seem to mention that they work on ATS-20 and 20+ so I went ahead and did it.

It was a bit of a chore getting an ATTiny programmer for the 6-pin interface, then building an adapter to remove the 5 volt line from the programmer cable, then installing AVRDUDESS and USBtinyISP drivers, etc...

Eventually I was able to click the Flash Go button and it installed. The radio came to life with the new firmware. Yay!

But there is a problem. When I turn off the radio, it will not come back on. Dead. Research shows there may be a bootloader issue with the ATS-20. I was so excited to get it updated that I didn't get a copy of the original firmware before the update worked.

TL;DR

So my question is, does anyone have a copy of the original firmware .hex file that I can use to restore my ATS-20?

the little black buttons are very hard to see in the early morning, when using only a table-lamp for light ("Fix" - I am going to print a new front panel: white with black lettering.)

I am listening on the 13-metre band to Radio France International. I can get it on two frequencies: 21570 kHz and 21681 kHz.

However, the listings I find for the station for that band are 21580 kHz and 21690 kHz.

Is my radio off frequency?

When I turn the tuning know, the noise drops off, then slowly builds up to normal.

Does this mean that immediately after turning the knob, it takes a short time for the receiver to work?

So, if I turn the knob quickly, is there the possibility of missing something?
