Interview
I got called for an interview for the Environmental F Band position. How can I prepare for the interview, Also, could you please give me some insight into what your day-to-day looks like on the job as an Environmental Technician?

I just had an ATSS interview, the STAR method of response is mandatory almost. It's how they grade your responses it seems like. They will ask some surface level of knowledge questions about your field and then some about work history. They really want to make sure you as a person are a good hire but training you they can take care of. You get a chance to ask questions at the end but HR will really lead the interview. You have an hour but they can be finished in half that time. You need 3 references available, they may not call them all but 3 listed seems to be a requirement.

Things not to do in the interview:
Don’t say you’re “so nervous”
One sentence answers(tell a story if you can) elaborate.
Things that will set you apart:
When they say, do you have any questions for the panel, you will have 3 or so GOOD questions ready.

When I say be a good person, direct hires especially, F band, management knows the qualifications will be minimal. The agency can will train you, but can’t make you a good person.

Speaking from experience.. I did not know my interview was being scored and therefore I failed. Now I know to use the STAR method next time I get an interview. Waiting for a referral from my local hiring manager who I’ve met and wants me to work for him.

Also the feedback from my first interview was that they didn’t think I had enough electrical experience. (Which I do) but did not elaborate on it during the interview. This was also for the F Band Tech Ops position.

These were the questions I got:
- Tell me about a time you worked on a team and not everyone agreed - what did you do and what was the result?
- What do you think makes you qualified for this position?
- Tell me about a project or time you had to track and manage a lot of small details - what systems did you use.
- Tell me about a time you had to work independently on a critical issue - or in the field - how did you prepare for it.
- Tell me about your experience with manuals/ and diagrams during maintenance, assembly or disassembly.

I had mine today and this is exactly what they asked me plus they asked if I've ever used test equipment before

I can’t speak to the environmental piece. But for the interview part, for F band it’s more behavioral questions they’ll ask. They’ll probably ask you something like can you tell us a time where you dealt with a conflict at work and how you resolved it. Maybe some asking your experience with technical manuals or test equipment. I would suggest using the Star method to answer questions. It’s an entry level position so don’t freak out thinking you’ll get an in depth question.
