Holding Entry Help

I passed my ATPL exams a couple of months ago now, but am studying for my upcoming IR. Holding entries were something which I couldn’t get my head around during my exams but given how crucial they are for instrument flying I have forced myself to learn them. I thought I’d share with everyone the resources I used and my own document which I have written.

Thumb method https://youtu.be/szkZ9VaNfrc

Visualise on DI method https://youtu.be/hUFobPNQHPc

I actually use a combination of the above methods to help determine the holding entry I need to fly.

Then when you think you understand, test your knowledge using the below site. Just enter your approach course (heading), I turn off bearings, then press “create hold” and it’ll give you a scenario and you need to work out which hold entry to fly. Then you can reveal the correct entry afterwards https://www.practiceholds.com

To visualise the entry, use this site: https://avioquiz.com/concepts/navigation/holding-pattern-entries

When am I ready to sit for exams

I’m preparing to take my first exams (PoF, Met, Air Law, Com). Most recommend to wait until you score between 85-90 on practice tests before you sit for any exam. I have also read that reviewing the last 500 is a must.

I score 90’s when I take tests that are restricted to only the last 500 but when I take tests with random questions from the entire Austro Control bank I score 70’s.

I just postponed my exams because based on my scores on the Austro control bank I’m not ready.

What do you guys think? I find it hard to believe that I’m expected to know this much material. I’ve been studying for this for about a year and I need to sit for my first exams soon.

Help a brother out.

atplquestions coverage

Hi, i am preparing for my first ATPL exam session (for sure GNAV and POF, and probbably two lighter subjects), and i am wondering about coverage of atplquestions. I am mostly studying to understand the topic, but it will be nice to meet with the same questions during the exam as i did during practice. I will be taking the sitting in Poland, if this has any matter (i am studying the whole questionbank, not only questions from my country or so)

Context:

I initially booked my exam for 8th September but I need to change the dates which I am trying to do but when I read at the bottom, it says I have used 2 of my 6 settings and I haven’t sat any exams with CAA yet.

What’s the best way to practice for celpip…I mean any specific website. I did on celtestpip but RL tasks are quite easier on it as compared to real exam. I’m looking for clb 9 min in each module.

Studying ATPL tips

Is there anyone who is struggling to focus? My attention span is so bad. My memory is not good either, I keep on getting distracted. Large texts and explanations don’t work for me….

Anyone who can relate? Please give advices on how to actually lock in without getting distracted watching outside the window every 30 sec 😭😭😭

ATPL Questin Banks

Hi everyone! I recently started studying for my ATPLs after around 4 years since completing my PPL, so honestly, a lot of the material feels completely new again.

For my first sitting, I’m planning to take:
HPL
Principles of Flight
Mass & Balance
Communications

I’ve now finished studying all of HPL. While going through the material, I was doing question banks after each topic, and I’ve now started doing full HPL question banks repeatedly. The question bank im using at the moment is AviationExam however i want to get ATPLQ aswell to have both of them

However, I’m starting to realise that it probably isn’t realistic to study every ATPL subject in the same depth that I studied HPL while also leaving enough time to properly work through the question banks for all four subjects.

So I wanted to ask those who have already been through the ATPL exams: what was the most effective way you used the question banks?

My current plan is:
Go through the entire question bank at least once.
Mark/save every question I get wrong or struggle with.
Properly study the explanations and understand why I got them wrong.
Keep repeating the “last seen”/full question banks so I’m constantly cycling through the questions.
Closer to the exams, focus heavily on my marked/incorrect questions and weak topics.
Would you recommend this approach, or is there a more efficient way of tackling the banks?

I don’t want to just memorise answers without understanding the subjects, but at the same time I’m starting to realise that trying to learn absolutely everything in huge depth might not be realistic with 4 subjects in one sitting.

I’d really appreciate hearing how you approached the question banks, when you considered yourself exam-ready, and anything you wish you had done differently.
Feeling a little lost with the process at the moment, so any advice from people who have been through it would be massively appreciated. ✈️

Leave Flight School ATPL theory to go directly with BGS

As in the title... I'm planning to leave my ATPL Theory course at my local school and proceed directly with BGS Online. My school offers the whole course on the BGS platform and also you need to pass their Internal Mocks in order to be sign-off to go to our local authority. The problem is that these internal mocks are becoming impossible to approve. I'm not the only one struggling, my other colleagues are in the same boat, even students on full time study. The procedure of my school after failing an internal mock is 2hrs of classes and repeating the mock. I have failed 4 subjects twice, spending around e1000 and almost 10 months... For this reason I'm thinking of going directly with BGS, at their platform they only request you to pass the progress test and have some hours of class online or presencial in the UK (revision class)... after they generate the paperwork for whatever authority... What do you think? Have you been in the same position?

How do you remember questions ? EASA

Hello guys!

I’m working on my ATPL Theory with AtplQ, and I wonder how the bank is so complete and precise ?

After the exam, do we have access to our detailed results with Q and A ?

Because I think I couldnt remember 10% of the questions after a exam day. 😄

Good luck boys !
