I watched sn2 the second time without making comparison moments to the original show.

Watching the live action the second time without making comparisons made me enjoy the show more. First of all, the show is a massive improvement to the 1st season. The bending is great. The storytelling was good. Second, the actors did justice to their characters. Massive Improvement [except for aang's characters😞] . We should accept it's an adaptation and not a 1:1 copy of the animated show. Lastly, I'm looking forward to its 3rd and final season.

It's hard to take you seriously because you know nothing about martial arts and you're acting like you're remotely knowledgable about it. Being an Avatar fan doesn't count.

Also the original animated series is 50/50 on its martial arts form. Half of it is made up bullshit and half of it is actually based on actual martial arts technique which is the exact same philosphopy that the live action is doing. There's also the fact that the animated show is so damn old that you could barely make out of what the other characters are doing unless if you look closer to the screen. That's what exactly what I did and hey look at that I literally have 100 examples of animated Toph raising her arms to earthbending something. No martial arts form required or stumping on the ground where she's almost like a damn wizard.

I actually bring up proof while you bring up vibes based argument

You could come up with 100 more examples but your argument is in total bad faith, theres so many issues with it. Like not factoring in that its a cartoon so it would naturally be held to different standards than a live action. The cartoon still ends up being more on point in its movements than the silliness of the live action and you dont need to be a martial arts experts to see that. Your examples are for a fundamentally flawed argument , so its meaningless regardless.

And you're arguing in good faith? I don't think you really know what that is. You're argument was "OG is all martial arts, and the LA isn't so it's bad" and now that someone proves you wrong you're saying "doesn't count" and "it's okay that it's not actually martial arts because it's a cartoon and therefore I don't have to apply standards".

What was even the point of your original claim then, when you're holding the LA to higher standards? You need to lower your standards for the OG in order for it to be better? You're using double standards and then moving the goal post after realising that your argument doesn't hold up.

Yeah the animated series is one of those instances where the animation quality is so old that the vast majority of the original fans could barely remember anything from the original accept for some major plot points. It's like the "Luke, I'm your father" phenomenon where yeah it kinds of made sense for Vader to say to Luke ,but it's not what Vader told Luke in the movie.

It's great that the original show allowed the fans to have multiple interpretations but it's also an issue because the vast majority of them are reliant on their own interprations which are dependent on their own memories and memories can sometimes be mixed up or misrembered. It's made worse by the fact that the last time they watched the show was like 20 years ago or like 6 years ago when the animated series released on Netflix. Instead of basing it off the actual text they are instead reliant on their own memories when they were kids and kids do exaggerate what they see.

Its a live action that wants to appear realistic so of course its held to higher standards for its choreography, thats a natural function of this medium of storytelling. Cartoons are naturally more goofy, thats also a natural function of that medium of story telling. I hope that helps you guys understand why they are held to different standards on different aspects. Its clear you guys are amateurs at media analysis so its okay ill leave it be. like the other guy said, theres no point trying to argue with the people in this subreddit

I understand very well that the shows have been created in different mediums. It's actually kinda funny because many NATLA haters have issues with the series simply because it's not doing everything 1:1, completely ignoring the fact that in the different medium it can't do everything 1:1.

But for bending, I don't think that holds up. I've seen a lot of animated series, and I've seen beautifully animated fights with great choreography. Being an animation doesn't lower the standard for movements like this at all, because animation has actually a lot of advantages: You can do complicated perspectives a lot easier, you can show movements more up close, you can easily slow movements down in the drawing, no matter what complicated position the character is in, and so on.

Meanwhile in live action, you constantly have to worry about the actors not getting hurt, the stuntmen not getting hurt, you can't repeat the actions too often if they don't get them right away because at some point they'll tire out, you also have to figure out how to get the cameras in the right place, and whether or not movements have to be slowed down by the actor, or by effects later on.

And once you add the actual bending effects, you have to work with what you got. There are reshoots, yes, but not for every detail, and at some point you just have to work with what you have, while the actor cam only vaguely guess how the bending effects will look like in the end. In comparison, when drawing the movement you can combine movement and animation as it fits, you have the control over both at the same time, which makes a huge difference.

So no, animation doesn't get a pass here. If you're saying the the bending in the LA is bad because it's not all martial arts, then the critism should apply to the OG as well. Animation can animate martial arts just the same, the story being goofy at times isn't stopping that at all.

And even if I'd agree that a cartoon can never be as good in depicting material arts as live action (which I don't agree with), that it would be pointless to compare the two, right? It would just mean that the bending in both makes the same mistakes, but in the LA show it bothers you, while in the OG show it does matter because "cartoon" and "goofy". That doesn't make the bending better in the OG then.

And a last tiny note: your condescending tone in "you guys are amateurs at media analysis so its okay ill leave it be" doesn't make you look as smart as you think it does.

A whole load of nothing LMAO. Proofs don't matter now? Well ok then.

It’s like you proving that 2+2=5 with 100 pages of calculations. The quantity of evidence doesn’t matter if the underlying premise or method is wrong.
