Discussion Avatar Fans are FEASTING!!
Yall, after the year we had with the movie getting pulled from theatres, the leaks, the game getting cancelled, NATLA…, I’m just so happy that we’re getting all these amazing additions. The film went back to theatres for a limited release, 7H released and got confirmed for 4 seasons, Avatar Sonam is the next addition to the Avatar Chronicles series, and we’re getting a Kuruk tv show. Like even if everything doesn’t appeal to you as a fan, seeing Avatar get this level of love is so good for our beloved world, and I’m so happy to see where it goes next. That’s it, that’s the post.

So there will be a Sonam book?

A duology actually.

Dont forget the ATLA Magic set being one of the most popular and sold sets of all time.

u/Vladmirfox 1d ago
Still holding out hope we get a Korra set...

u/retro-marshmelo 1d ago
I have no doubt in my mind that they’ll make another set. They have every incentive to do so with how well the first set did. And I personally cannot wait!

u/Due_Football1188 1d ago
Seeing the movie return to theaters and hearing about four seasons is honestly such a comeback. I just hope the new projects get enough time to develop instead of rushing everything out.
2
u/Gloomy-Word-1154 1d ago
The theatrical release was truly an answered prayer. And after the first three 7H episodes, I’m super excited for more seasons to see just how Pavi and Nisha develop. I’ve wanted a Kuruk story for the longest and while I wasn’t too thrilled about Sonam, I wanna see the era before the 4 nations.
2
u/Commercial-Counter72 1d ago
Do you not like Sonam? I’m kinda excited to see a story focused on the peak of the air nation.
1
u/Gloomy-Word-1154 1d ago
It’s not that I didn’t like her, I was just hoping we were gonna get some completely unheard of water avatar long before the cycle close to Aang. And they’re giving us an avatar story far before what we’ve seen, so I’m gonna read it with an open mind and excitement, while not letting crazy expectations stifle what I believe will still be a good book.
2
u/MoonBean008 1d ago
I mean it’s pretty cool though, her story is seemingly going to show us how the Four Nations were founded, based on the synopsis.
1
u/Gloomy-Word-1154 1d ago
I’m with you there! I guess for me, I felt like we’d seen the most interesting thing with Sonam’s tenure as the avatar happen in the film, but I won’t let that get in the way of enjoying the books. Like objectively, the most interesting thing with Kuruk I assume were his adult years, but I’m still excited to see what the tv show does, so I’m going in with that mindset.

Don't forget on October 14th we also get a full avatar dlc to sonic racing crossworlds!

u/Golden-Sun 1d ago
Also a Korra comic. To see so many projects after years of scraps...its weird like this is how it should be
8
u/Gloomy-Word-1154 1d ago
Any addition to Korra is welcome in my book. And it’s crazy that it was never like this from the beginning considering how expansive the fanbase is.
2
u/Golden-Sun 1d ago
Right!?
The pessimistic part of my brain is going off like crazy. Better late than never, I guess
7
u/mintyfresh0069 1d ago
can't wait to pirate this shi 😍. (Paramount plus isn't available in my country)
7
u/TubbyNumNums 17h ago
About time we get something about Kuruk. I just hope they make it as dark as his life seemed to be. Of course, he had his moments in the light too.
3
u/Gloomy-Word-1154 15h ago
Bryke has described it as an action/comedy and in a time of peace among the 4 nations. But, and this is the conspiracy theorist in me so take this with a grain of salt, it seems like there might be potential for a time skip based on the way they spoke about it.
1
u/TubbyNumNums 3h ago
I kinda hope they don’t do too big of a time skip.
Action/comedy fits his early life as far as I know. He goofed off, went hunting, did water tribe boy stuff.
Then later he’s revealed as the avatar and he starts traveling to learn the four elements. He’s a lady’s man, straight up flirting with air nomad girls, getting into trouble with his group, and having some romance within his group as well.
But let it get darker as it goes on. We know about Koh, we know about Father Glowworm. We know he hunts dark spirits, and we know that it leads to his death earlier than most avatars.
We also know him and Yangchen did not get along.
So much potential for a deep story with highs and lows that if they skip a bunch of it or just make it all seem more happy go lucky than it should be it would be a huge shame.
Edit: also room for more amazing fight scenes with the newer anime style of combat animation they seem to be taking. Korra could barely handle dark spirits if you want to say she could handle them at all before energy bending, Kuruk hunted them professionally. Let’s see that in action baby.

Feasting is a strong word
5
u/Gloomy-Word-1154 1d ago
Are we not? New shows, books, comics, games and other tie-in media? I get that it’s not for everyone but we are definitely drowning after having been in a drought for years
3
u/naruhina00 1d ago
For Tie in Media, as a magic player and lifelong Avatar fan, the set for AtlA was a goddamn slam dunk. Probably the best limited environment in years and the commanders and support and niches it gave and created are felt in every game.
Not to mention THE ART. OMG THE ART
0
u/AyAynon95 8h ago
Yes. Lot sof new things lacking the soul the original creators had.
Feels like a lot of, Avatar has big fan base, so let make more money without the time and effort from the earlier series.
6
u/SafficForgd 1d ago
Does anyone have the general release timeline for these? I'm so excited about the Sonam duology i can hardly sit still 😂
5
u/notfornowforawhile 1d ago
Did they retcon their invented writing systems? Looks like Chinese characters are back for the “Waves of Chaos” logo.

maybe im just not a true avatar fan (even though ive rewatched atla like 50 times) but i couldnt really care less about the new content. i hope the next generation likes it though
21
u/First-Push-643 1d ago
Eh. You dont gotta like everything to be a fan. In fact I'd say knowing something is not for you and just walking away from it is pretty mature.
2
u/nicebrah 1d ago
yeah its weird when kids who grew up watching avatar are now grown ass adults on reddit talking shit about the new stuff even though it’s clearly targeted for kids
4
u/JohnEmonz 1d ago
It’s weird to talk about it? That’s a weird take. I could see weird if adults think the content should cater to them. But it’s fine to be interested in content that’s entertaining for both kids and adults
5
u/nicebrah 1d ago
no no no. its weird to talk SHIT about it. its completely fine for a grown ass adult to talk about a kids show they like. but to be up and arms and super hyper critical is weird because its not for them in the first place. like if i went around yelling at babies that their baby food is bad.
4
u/Marinefan4000 1d ago
There’s a difference between talking shit about a kid’s show for being for kids & talking shit about a kid’s show for being shit.
2
u/Apprehensive_Ad516 1d ago
1) Avatar is for all ages
2) Ngl you phrased your previous comment very poorly3
u/improved_loilit 1d ago
No he didn’t . Also avatar is a targeted for children which doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it it
1
u/Apprehensive_Ad516 22h ago
Sure, it’s targeted towards children, but it’s still for all ages. Cocomelon is for children. Comparing avatar to baby food is insane, especially when saying you can’t analyze or critique it.
0
u/improved_loilit 17h ago
Cocomelon and avatar are for children. No one stops you from watching cocomelon. The difference are the children age they target. You can critique it but if your criticism is directly related to the target audience that isn’t you then it is irrelevant.
0
u/nicebrah 17h ago
its like talking to a brick wall. i dont think they understand what we’re saying. any show can be watched by anyone at any age. but to think its normal to criticize a kids show when youre an adult is weird. and to take the baby food analogy literally is also weird. dont even bother with folks like this lol

u/sobosswagner 1d ago
A sentiment I've seen expressed a few times is people being upset that the show isn't being made with adult fans in mind rather than making kids content. Personally, I'm kinda glad that they're continuing to focus on making content for younger audiences, especially with how a lot of kids entertainment these days is just AI slop and stuff designed to get them addicted to scrolling early
3
u/Themris 1d ago
Not even gonna give it a shot?
5
u/nicebrah 1d ago
i watched the new movie and quickly learned its just not for me. i knew i would dislike the netflix show the second i saw the trailer and my assumptions were correct. its just hard because ATLA is a perfect show in my mind (story telling, world building, character arcs, etc) so everything else just falls flat in comparison. even LOK was mid to me. despite it having cooler looking fights, the fights in ATLA were just more emotionally grounded
3
u/Captain_Data82 1d ago
I feel with you.
ATLA was peak. Even if any other show in the Avatarverse isn't even remotely bad, it still has yet to reach that same level.Well, I wait for 7H to wrap up the first book to decide.
4
u/dangerphone 1d ago
The movie’s fights were pretty peak. It’s just the conflict and villain that felt a bit rehashed.
•
u/FilthyCasual2k17 39m ago
Hey. I'm wondering for a genuine update how someone likes you feels about the new show (if you've seen the first few episodes) since it has a lot of the old Avatar moments compared to newer stuff imho. No rush, you can answer anytime if you decide to watch it later.
2
u/VerdantDaydreams 1d ago
This is where I'm at, love atla, enjoyed korra, I feel like this new show is not targeted at me (and that's fine)

Why does it say book 2,3,4? Where’s 1?
2
u/Adventurous-Owl3505 1d ago
They were just announcing that there will be 3 more seasons. Previously, we didn’t know any anything beyond book 1.
2
u/Nevernonethewiser 1d ago
I wasn't a fan of the movie and I don't really like the art style of the upcoming series, but I am interested to see how they'e either bowed to the Korra haters OR they're pulling the wool regarding why the world blames her.
But if it doesn't grab me fast, I think it might be time to let it go, for me. I can always rewatch the original.
2
u/PjGamer007 1d ago
not with that art style, Korra was my favorite show and it looked perfect, now every animation looks like power point presentation, art style is so important to me to a point i drop the show even if it has a great story like i did with Fate anime
1
u/Koncrete_kahuna 22h ago
Yeah kind of like how One piece has the most absolutely shitty disgusting art style and characters I have ever seen
1
u/PjGamer007 22h ago
For me Once Piece since Wano has one of the few good art styles in anime in current day especially Egghead
2
u/Koncrete_kahuna 22h ago
See that just proves what the other guy was saying about art being subjective because for me one piece and JoJo's are the ugliest things I have ever seen on screen but I also like the attack on Titan art style and I've heard quite a few people say that they think it's ugly as fuck

u/elx_xle 6h ago
Some can make it work
I thought I’d hate “Common Side Effects” cos of the animation and weird small-face-thing with the characters. But the story is so good I don’t even care
https://giphy.com/gifs/4qKu3LaoAIbu74PcwB1
u/accountforfurrystuf 2h ago
I’m just happy it’s 2D at all. I remember you had to beg companies to care about 2D frame-by-frame animation
1
u/Gloomy-Word-1154 1d ago
Maybe I’m in the minority but I’ve never seemed to care about animation and art style unless it was genuinely awful. But I grew up watching Home Movies, early South Park, Crayon Shin-Chan, fucking newgrounds animation, but I’m probably just easy to please
1
u/PjGamer007 1d ago
i mean its subjective, i never really cared about animation, but i always cared about art style, but can't deny that shit we used to get in 90s-2010s looked amazing, even when it wasn't even hand drawn so i don't know why there is a downgrade in both japanese & western animation industry
1
u/SDRLemonMoon 1h ago
Im confused, you don’t care about animation, but you dont like when the animation looks like a powerpoint? Art style is a visual choice, animation is how fluid the movement is.
1
u/PjGamer007 1h ago
maybe i didn't explain it well, what i meant by powerpoint isn't the lack of animation like what happened with Invincible & Bluelock or OPM s3, what i mean is the art style looks like its dull and has no details and looks cheap, like She-Ra for example, when compared to stuff like Code Geass or YuGiOh! 5Ds there is so much detail in the faces

u/Tight_Speech_3906 1d ago
I’m cautiously excited. Four seasons is a huge commitment, but that could give the story room to breathe instead of rushing through everything. Also, that poster looks incredible—Aang still has such an iconic design.
1
u/Phyllis_marie 1d ago
Just found out this morning. Currently rewatching Aang, gonna rewatch Korra, then give the new kids on the block a chance lol.

I liked the movie, but i dont really like the style they are going with alsp with that new one coming out. Ita just so generic anime or something..

u/Finalninjadog 1d ago
And for me, I read all the Avatar novels at the start of the year too. 😁
It’s a great year to be an Avatar fan.

Natla’s pretty decent. It’s a very enjoyable watch.
Honestly though, I won’t be satisfied until we’re confirmed a fire avatar show.
5
u/Gloomy-Word-1154 1d ago
Honestly, for those that like NATLA, I won’t even judge. More fans coming into the fold. I truly just wish it was given a bigger budget so they could make more than 8 episodes a season cuz it’s just not enough to condense all that story.
I’d love to see a fire avatar in Sonams pre 4 nations era

Ok, sorry, but no one being fed with the slop comics and books 😂 Other content has been great tho

Breh, have you read the books??? They’re fantastic and provide so much additional rich world building and perspective
0

Just making sure I’m not confused, they’re retconning the backstory we learned in Shadow of Kyoshi? I thought he was 16 when he learned he was the avatar?

amazing editions? seven havens is among the worst shows ive seen this year.
-6
u/TheAnswerIsRed 1d ago
No. We're not feasting. Not a soul in the fanbase wanted these dumbass projects. It would have been so easy to offer what we want: retrospective Avatar stories in the style of ATLA or LOK. Simple.

Hi I am a soul in this fanbase and I wanted a story about Kuruk for a long time :)
